    The Division of Medical Genetics with the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Utah, Salt Lake City and Lehi, Utah, is seeking a full-time Genetic Counselor to provide comprehensive genetic counseling services for genetic conditions.

    This position provides the opportunity to participate in the University of Utah Graduate Program in Genetic Counseling, with student education, supervision and mentorship.

    Responsibilities


    Essential Functions:

    • Performs patient/family genetic risk assessment: collects and evaluates medical and family histories; obtains and reviews medical records to confirm reported diagnosis; analyzes and interprets information obtained from patient, medical records, and resource materials; evaluates complex medical and genetic literature from varied sources and incorporates into clinical practice.
    • Provides information regarding the etiology, inheritance, incidence/carrier risks, and natural history/prognosis for genetic conditions/diseases; facilities patients understanding of genetic, medical and psychosocial information including risks, testing options and procedures, test results and their implications; performs psychosocial assessment during genetic consultation and provides grief and crisis counseling as needed.
    • Formulates genetic testing and/or medical recommendations in collaboration with physicians and team members; facilitates referrals for other family members who seek information; provides medical genetic counseling.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Required

    Current license as a Genetic Counselor in the State of Utah.


    Master's degree in Genetic Counseling from an accredited program or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience).

    Preferred

    Licensure to practice in a clinical field.
