    Job DescriptionDirector, Discovery Biology

    Scribe Therapeutics is a molecular engineering company focused on creating best-in-class in vivo therapies that permanently treat the underlying cause of disease. Founded by CRISPR inventors and leading molecular engineers Benjamin Oakes, Brett Staahl, David Savage, and Jennifer Doudna, Scribe is overcoming the limitations of current genome editing technologies by developing custom engineered enzymes and delivery modalities as part of a proprietary, evergreen CRISPR by DesignTM platform for CRISPR-based genetic medicine.

    We are seeking a highly creative, passionate, and motivated individual to join us in our quest to develop the next generation of CRISPR-based therapeutics. The current role is for a Director, Discovery Biology to join our team and advance our platform. The candidate should have a passion for working collaboratively with biologists and bioengineers to enable building the necessary tools for meeting the new frontier of CRISPR-based therapeutics. This individual will lead a cross-disciplinary team to identify, evaluate, and validate new therapeutics for highly unmet diseases. The role is integral to an R&D team advancing preclinical gene editing therapeutic candidates from concept to IND applications.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • You will be a critical member of Discovery Biology, where you'll play a hands-on role in shaping and executing research strategies for various discovery programs, contributing to clear go/no-go decisions.
    • Lead, oversee, and empower a team of biology scientists. Clearly define and communicate research objectives, orchestrate key studies, and analyze data.
    • Collaborate across functions to identify and validate leading candidates from target selection and hit identification to hit-to-lead optimization, drug candidate nomination, and IND filing.
    • Deliver compelling project updates and present innovative early-stage research ideas to senior research leadership and diverse audiences. Contribute substantially to nonclinical study reports and regulatory filings.
    • Stay abreast of scientific literature regarding biological targets, modalities, cutting-edge techniques, and model systems.

    Required Skills and Background:
    • Ph.D. or an equivalent credential in disciplines such as Biochemistry, Molecular and Cellular Biology, Physiology, or a related field, with 10+ years of professional expertise.
    • Industry acumen and a profound understanding of drug discovery.
    • Proven track record of guiding innovative research in discovery biology and cardiometabolic diseases, substantiated by impactful publications and recognition as an emerging leader in the field.
    • Proven experience in spearheading cross-functional teams engaged in identifying and validating development candidates.
    • Demonstrated leadership abilities to guide a discovery biology team through recruitment, supervision, coaching, and motivation of team members.
    • Familiarity with Investigational New Drug (IND) or Clinical Trial Application (CTA) processes and expertise in regulatory filings.
    • Demonstrated quantitative and scientific thinker as evidenced by a strong publication record
    • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, interdisciplinary research team
    Preferred Skills and Background:
    • Familiarity with genome engineering techniques such as CRISPR/Cas
    • Good understanding of genetics and epigenetics mechanisms
    • Hands-on experience with -omics and data visualization

    At the time of posting, the base pay wage range for this role is $180,000-220,000 per year. The offered pay range will depend on internal equity and the candidate's relevant skills, experience, qualifications, training, and market data. Additional incentives are provided as part of the complete package in addition to comprehensive medical and other benefits.
