Leadership Responsibilities: Responsible for the scientific leadership and overall effectiveness of the IO Discovery group including providing strategic direction, development and implementation of work efforts within the group and managing resources within the group to meet the department goals.
    Work closely with TRC Scientific Leadership group to deliver on pipeline from new target discovery, validation, therapeutic candidate selection through to first in human stage, including identification and assessment of external opportunities. The incumbent will be responsible for the development of staff, and for fostering a collaborative workplace environment within the direct areas of responsibility and across different groups of stakeholders, on site and across BMS, to meet the TME TRC objectives. As part of the TRC leadership team, the incumbent will be responsible for participating in setting of TME TRC goals, and contributing to, communicating and supporting, all site-wide initiatives to respective department.
    Responsible for maintaining highest degree of scientific excellence and personal motivation for staff
    Demonstrates leadership consistent with the BMS's philosophy, including attracting and retaining top key talent critical to business success, developing team members
    Preferred experience with providing oversight into preparation of technical reports and nonclinical sections of documents to support IND filings and other regulatory documents associated with moving candidates from nonclinical to clinical environment Managerial: Provides strong leadership, clear direction, development opportunities and open communication to staff; employee development and cross training
    Direct and indirect management of group of approximately 40 people within the IO Discovery group with responsibility for leading, mentoring and supporting career development Collaborations/team support Responsible for integrating efforts of the IO Discovery Group with relevant partners including those both internal and external to RWC and BMS
    Responsible for effectively collaborating with other discovery and translational biology colleagues as well as colleagues in supportive line functions (including discovery biotherapeutics, small molecule drug discovery, translational medicine, early clinical development and project leadership) to advance preclinical development of therapeutic candidates to early clinical development
    Responsible for building relationships and networks outside of direct reporting lines to aid progress of programs and to increase collaborations between Discovery and other key departments at BMS
    Responsible for representing IO Discovery group in discussions with external collaborators/companies with membership on joint steering committees as appropriate Education: A PhD (or equivalent) in relevant area of biology with a strong background in immunology, and preferably experience in immune-oncology, and a minimum of 15-20 years of experience in industry/biotech
    Strong oral and written communication skills
