    Introduction: Gecko Hospitality is currently recruiting a Director of Engineering for a prestigious client in Fort Lauderdale. This key position requires a seasoned professional experienced in managing engineering operations within a hotel or similar institutional environment.

    Job Description:

    As the Director of Engineering, you will be responsible for overseeing the entire engineering department, ensuring all operations run smoothly and efficiently. This position reports directly to the General Manager and is integral in maintaining the safety, functionality, and aesthetics of the property.

    Qualifications:

    • Fluent in English with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in hotel or institutional facilities management, specifically with HVAC systems.
    • Certification in Refrigeration and HVAC; a stationary engineering license is preferred.
    • 2-4 years of previous management or supervisory experience in a related field.
    • Proficient knowledge of electrical, mechanical, life safety systems, and preventative maintenance systems.
    • Experience with budget management, cost control, and financial responsibility.
    • Valid driver's license is required.

    Responsibilities:

    • Lead the engineering team to deliver exceptional customer service, maintaining the hotel's service philosophy.
    • Manage financial aspects of the engineering department, including budget preparation and expense management.
    • Oversee recruitment, training, and management of the engineering team in line with company values and standards.
    • Develop and implement a preventive maintenance schedule for all equipment and facilities.
    • Conduct regular inspections and ensure adherence to safety and quality standards.
    • Prioritize and manage maintenance and repair tasks to ensure high levels of guest satisfaction and operational efficiency.
    • Maintain detailed documentation for all operational procedures and repairs.
    • Act as a key player in emergency response situations, ensuring staff are well-prepared and equipped to handle any issues.

    Physical Requirements:

    • Frequent standing/walking during shifts.
    • Ability to perform tasks requiring bending, kneeling, and walking.
    • Capable of lifting heavy objects and performing physically demanding tasks as required.
    • Comfortable working in various indoor and outdoor environments with potential exposure to weather conditions.

    Performance Standards:

    • Demonstrate a proactive approach in maintaining the property's infrastructure.
    • Maintain effective communication with the General Manager on all engineering-related matters.
    • Foster a collaborative work environment and encourage team empowerment.
    • Adhere to all safety protocols and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.

    Work Environment:

    • The role involves exposure to industrial settings, including potential exposure to chemicals, noise, and machinery.
    • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory in designated operational areas.
