    Introduction

    Anticipated openings for the School Year.\r\r\rMaryland School for the Deaf (MSD) is a diverse, bilingual community who in partnership with families, provides an equitable and exemplary education in a nurturing, engaging, and challenging environment to ensure our students achieve personal excellence and become lifelong learners.

    As such, we are looking for dedicated individuals who can join us in the education of the children at MSD.

    Main Purpose of Job

    To design, implement, and supervise a comprehensive educational after school program in order to promote the physical, cognitive, mental, emotional, and social behavioral growth of the deaf students and deaf students with special needs for the K-8th grade children.

    \r

    POSITION DUTIES

    Plan and implement\rappropriate social, leisure, and recreational activities which will build\rconfidence and self-esteem in the children.\r\r\rSupport school programs\rand initiatives and incorporate into after school activities.\r\r\rCommunicate with\radministrators, staff, and parents on a monthly base with regards to the\rplanned activities.\r\r\rCommunicate with the\rparents regarding their children's progress.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Recreational Experience in scheduling and coordinating activities or other experiences working with deaf children.\r\r\rMust be fluent in American Sign Language.

    \r

    DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
    Bachelor's degreein recreation or education.\r

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
    New hires are subject to a criminal background investigation at their own expense. (Maryland Code, Family Law Article 1, Sections \r\r\rCandidates will need to provide three letters of recommendation with their application.\r

    SELECTION PROCESS

    BENEFITS
    \r\rContractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.\rLeave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.\r\r\r
