    The Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology has an outstanding opportunity for a Clinical Laboratory Technician 2


    WORK SCHEDULE
    40 hours per week

    Day Shift

    REQUIRED POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
    Current WA State Department of Health Medical Assistant - Phlebotomist certification, or willingness to train for the certification and submit a complete application to WA DOH for the certification

    High school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) and ability to provide documentation of such.


    PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
    Clinical Laboratory Technician 2 performs the pre-analytic laboratory procedures of specimen collection and specimen processing and performs a limited number of test procedures


    Interpret provider test orders, prioritize specimen handling based on specimen type and clinical urgency, monitor requisitions and labels for accuracy and investigate/document errors and incomplete orders.

    Perform stat and routine tests utilizing kit assays, bedside monitoring devices and microscopic evaluations.

    Accurately enter test results into Sunquest, the Laboratory Information System (LIS)

    Perform quality control analyses on all tests assigned and determine whether all parameters are within established ranges.

    Perform routine quality monitoring of test systems and troubleshoot test systems, when necessary, by consulting manufacturer's manuals, Division maintenance guides, and calling the MLS Lead or CLT Lead for guidance


    Perform work accurately and precisely and organize the workload to meet the service demands calmly and efficiently, without direct supervision.

    Complete requirements to apply for a Medical Assistant - Phlebotomist certification to WA Department of Health

    Perform phlebotomy on adult and pediatric patients.

    Demonstrate excellent customer service skills and appropriately handle telephone inquiries from staff and providers.


    Represent the Department of Laboratory Medicine and UW Medicine to play an important role in promoting our mission, values and goal of service excellence and patient safety.

    Prepare and process specimens for transport and testing, storing specimens under optimal temperature conditions for the test(s) indicated.


    Exhibit a working knowledge of the lab information systems (LIS), including Sunquest and EPIC; Problem-solve both billing and ordering issues of both systems, and generate batch lists, pending logs, and exception reports, etc.

    to document and track specimens within the Department.


    Know the critical values for all tests assigned and follow the Department policy to verify a critical value and report the result to the appropriate care team member; Document the report of critical values in the LIS, remembering to include CLT name, date and time of report, and name of contact who received the report.

    Maintain a congenial and professional working relationship with co-workers, clinical technologists, supervisors, and faculty.

    Participate in training and demonstrating routine laboratory techniques to students and new employees.

    Provide support for special projects and perform related duties as assigned.

    Monitor laboratory inventory in assigned work area and notify section lead or supervisor if supplies are needed and place orders as requested; Assist with submitting order through supplier website, if assigned
