    Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center is an independent, nonprofit organization providing adult cancer treatment and groundbreaking research focused on cancer and infectious diseases.

    Based in Seattle, Fred Hutch is the only National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center in Washington.

    Two Research Technician positions are available in Dr. Nasa Sinnott-Armstrong's lab.

    These positions will be responsible for performing standard and investigative laboratory work in support of scientific research by performing bench-level experiments, operating analytical instruments, recovering, compiling and verifying the accuracy of research data; performing calculations; preparing charts, graphs and summaries.

    Responsibilities

    Works under the direction of the Principal Investigator or higher-level laboratory personnel. Primary role is carrying out experiments.


    • Perform experiments at the bench level to support investigative work.
    • Prepare and maintain laboratory reagents, stocks, cultures or cell lines.
    • Perform and modify documented protocols and assays.
    • Maintain laboratory records and compile data on experiments and assays.
    • Interpret and report on experimental results.
    • Perform statistical analysis of test results and prepare written reports on work performed.
    • Operate and carry out basic maintenance of laboratory equipment.
    • Order and maintain appropriate levels of supplies.
    • May supervise work-study students.
    • Perform other duties as required.

    Additional duties for Level II:

    • Identify methodological problems in research protocol and implement modifications to optimize experimental results.
    • Prepare and present written or oral progress reports concerning studies including assembly, organization, and interpretation of data.
    • Assist in the design of experiments; may be responsible for the performance of individual research projects.
    • Conduct literature reviews to assist in determining most suitable methods to be used in research.
    Qualifications


    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    Research Technician I:

    • BA/BS in a relevant field.
    • Must have scientific knowledge in the area of study and basic laboratory skills.
    • Independent clinical or research experience in addition to school lab experience.

    Research Technician II:

    All qualifications of level 1, plus:

    • 2 years of experience working in a laboratory or equivalent experience

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Experience culturing bacteria, and especially anaerobic bacteria; with protein expression, especially in vitro protein expression; with molecular biology, particularly digital PCR; and with automated liquid handling

    Research Technician I:
    The hourly pay range for this position is from $22.21 to $31.61 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications


    Research Technican II:

    The hourly pay range for this position is from $25.71 to $36.60 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
