Description
The Project Accountant is the primary liaison between Operations and Accounting, and provides Operations with information necessary to complete a project within budget.
The Project Accountant has immediate responsibility for administering all fiscal activities associated with Company projects, which includes among other duties contract billings to customers, payments to subcontractors and suppliers, and development of project cost forecasts.
Areas of Responsibility:
Participate in pre-construction meetings that deal with the project budget, schedule of values, and payment schedules
Review contracts and identify contractual terms for customer invoicing purposes
Setup projects for billing in Sage 300
Create any necessary billing forms and documents
Prelien new jobs and confirm lien rights, including change orders, are always protected
Create insurance certs per customer requests
Maintain and publish Master Billing Projections Budget monthly
Ensure that customer billings occur on schedule and in conformity with contract requirements and Company policies and procedures
Confirm the accuracy of payment applications
Prepare and submit billings to customers
Anticipate dates of payment of customer billings, and investigate any delays effecting expectations
Audit subcontractor and supplier invoices, and schedule them for approval and payment
Obtain waivers of lien rights prior to making payments to subcontractors and suppliers
Pay subcontractor and supplier invoices pursuant to Company policy and procedures
Create initial Cost at Completion ("CAC") worksheets
Participate in monthly CAC meetings with Project Managers and Senior Management
Identify budget variances in CAC worksheets, and resolve related issues with the project management team
Upload approved CAC data to Job Cost records
Complete special projects as directed by the CFO
Perform the above job requirements in accordance with Company policies and procedures
Evaluate processes and procedures related to this position in the context of continuous improvement
Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and abilities required.
Must be able pass a Flashtract Evaluation Test
Required Education/Experience:
Minimum two (2) years of recent experience as a Project Accountant for a general contractor in the construction industry. Experience in Multi-Family Housing space highly desirable
Substantial experience with all project-related components of Sage 300 Construction & Real Estate (CRE) software, including Contracts, Billing, Accounts Payable, Job Cost and Project Management modules
Thorough knowledge of lien laws in the Western United States
Other Required Skills and Abilities:
Well organized and detail-oriented with a strong work ethic
Excellent verbal and written communication, presentation and inter-personal skills
Ability to multi-task and meet strict deadlines
Self-starter able to work independently with little supervision
A demonstrated ability to analyze situations and apply accounting and industry knowledge to anticipate and recognize problems and anomalies; to consider possible contingencies and concerns; and to resolve issues before they impact projects or the work environment
Ability to effectively employ all elements of Microsoft Office software, and especially proficient in the use of Excel
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit ergonomically correct; to use hands to finger, handle or feel; and have the ability to talk and hear.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and infrequently lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to focus.
This job requires repetitive motion with word processing and data entry. Moderate phone use is required at times, and the noise level is usually typical for a business office environment.
