    The Director of Student Leadership and Engagement (DSLE) at Bunker Hill Community College is pivotal in enriching the college experience through developmental and educational opportunities outside the traditional classroom setting. The role involves coordinating and implementing campus-wide programming accessible to all students, supporting student-led programming initiatives like Student Events, clubs, and organizations, and collaborating with the Assistant Dean to mentor Student Government. The DSLE is tasked with developing leadership programming that contributes to student growth outside of the classroom, including running New Student Orientation, New Student Convocation, supporting commencement, and helping to build the BHCC alumni database and network. This position requires partnering and collaborating with various departments on campus to coordinate events and engage students in leadership and learning, providing strong leadership in developing campus-wide initiatives in areas of programming, engagement, outreach, assessment, and leadership development. Additionally, the DSLE works with students facing academic challenges to expedite referrals to campus resources, enhancing retention and success, and develops identity-based themed programming for students, including observances like Black History Month, MLK Jr. Day, National Hispanic Heritage Month, LGBTQIA + History Month, and others. The role also involves providing and fostering a supportive and dynamic environment that encourages student involvement, leadership development, and engagement on campus and virtually. The Director is also responsible for supervising staff and student employees in the office, ensuring efficient and effective operation. This position offers an opportunity to make a significant impact on student engagement and leadership development at BHCC.

    Specific Responsibilities:

    • Organize and execute campus-wide programs accessible to all students, ensuring a vibrant and inclusive campus environment.
    • Assist in the development and management of student events, clubs, and organizations, fostering a platform for student creativity and leadership.
    • In collaboration with the Assistant Dean, provide guidance and mentorship to the Student Government, enhancing their efficacy and impact.
    • Work closely with various campus departments to coordinate events and promote student participation in leadership and educational activities.
    • Collects data, assess goals, and reports outcomes of diversity and inclusion programs and services to campus constituencies annually.
    • Identifies and administers Strength-Based training modules for students to enhance student retention.
    • Supports large Campus programming and outreach including New Student Orientation, New Student Convocation, Welcome Week, Spring Day, Student Leader recruitment and development, Commencement, etc.
    • Supports Student Engagement Leaders the College's diverse student population by engaging in meaningful and developmental interactions with students.
    • As assigned collaborates with Center for Equity and Cultural Wealth, the Chief Diversity and Equity Official, College Events, and Affinity Group Programs to plan and implement initiatives to create a welcoming, equitable and inclusive campus environment that supports student learning and growth.
    • Provides leadership for the development and implementation of programs to enhance students' learning regarding equity and cultural wealth.
    • Actively collaborates with Advising (LifeMap) and the retention Target X tool, Institutional Effectiveness, the DISH food pantry, Single Stop, and Financial Aid.
    • Serve as an advocate for student engagement and inclusion through frequent attendance and high visibility at campus and community programs, events, and activities.
    • Recruits, hires, trains and supervises student employees to assist with orientation, outreach, retention and create an inclusive student programming board; responsible for weekly meetings, managing programming budget, overseeing program planning and implementation, facilitating recruitment, selection and onboarding processes and developing trainings and professional development opportunities.
    • Creates a formal leadership program for student employees for the Office of Student Leadership and Engagement.
    • This position entails overseeing the creation and managing of the department's annual operating budget.
    • Performs related administrative duties, assignments, or special projects as required.
    • Utilizes identity development theories to inform student program development, alignment with Institutional Learning Outcomes and the College's mission.
    • Conducts periodic campus climate assessments to illuminate strengths, challenges, and gaps in the development and advancements of an equitable, inclusive climate for diversity.
    • Propose proactive solutions for improving student success of all underrepresented students.

    Other Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Participates on College committees as needed. Performs other related duties as required/assigned.
    Job Requirements:
    • Master's degree from an accredited institution in the field of Student Affairs, Leadership, Social Justice, Higher Education Administration or related field.
    • Five years of direct student affairs experience including student activity planning,/coordination; leadership development, and student orientation.
    • Able to provide support, timely feedback and clear communication to all staff.
    • Cultural awareness and competency demonstrated by working with and/or understanding of individuals of diverse identities including ethnicity, race, socioeconomic background, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, and veterans' status as well as those with different levels of academic preparation, physical and learning abilities.
    • Competent in MS Word, Outlook and social media communication.
    • Demonstrated strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Experience working with students 1-1 and in small groups to enhance academic retention.
    Additional Information:

    Salary Range: $100,000.00-$116, Actual Salary Will Be Commensurate with Education & Experience
