    Since 1976, St.

    Joseph Center has been meeting the needs of low-income and homeless individuals and families in Venice and throughout Los Angeles County.

    The Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit community organization that assists people without regard for religious affiliation or lack thereof through 20+ programs in four pillars of service: Outreach and Engagement, Housing Services, Mental Health, and Education and Vocational Training.

    St. Joseph Center serves more than 10,000 people each year.
    Brief Description of Principal Activities

    Multifaceted intervention, prevention, mental health, and housing assistance is offered through street outreach and 9 service sites throughout Los Angeles County.

    St.

    Joseph Center also provides on-site services at five permanent supportive housing developments, and will provide services at an additional six more sites in the coming year.

    St. Joseph Center's total holistic approach to services provide our clients with the help they need to regain their stability.
    Summary

    The Vice President of External Affairs will advance the organization's mission by increasing the reach and impact of the organization's work.

    Enhancing its overall reputation for excellence, expertise, strengthening relationships with key audiences and partners, raising visibility, and shaping the image of St.

    Joseph Center.
    Essential Duties -

    Serve as the senior strategic advisor and lead on public affairs initiatives to the President & CEO.

    Strengthen and deepen the connections to key audiences, including government officials, regional collaborators, public organizations and partners, and develop and lead efforts to expand St.

    Joseph Center's reach to new strategic audiences.
    Develop and implement comprehensive public affairs strategies to promote the organization's mission and objectives regarding homelessness.
    Cultivate and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including government officials, community leaders, media outlets, and advocacy groups.
    Serve as a spokesperson for the organization, effectively communicating its message and advocating for policies that address homelessness.

    Monitor and analyze legislative and regulatory developments at the local, state, and federal levels related to homelessness, and develop advocacy campaigns accordingly.

    Collaborate with internal teams to ensure alignment of public affairs efforts with organizational priorities and initiatives.

    Plan and execute public events, forums, and campaigns to raise awareness of homelessness issues and engage the community in solutions.

    Develop and oversee the organization's digital and social media presence, including website content, social media channels, and online advocacy campaigns.

    Prepare and distribute press releases, op-eds, and other communications materials to promote the organization's initiatives and achievements.

    Manage a team of public affairs professionals, providing leadership, guidance, and support to ensure the successful implementation of public affairs strategies.

    Track and evaluate the effectiveness of public affairs activities, using metrics and data analysis to inform

    Build rapport and relationships with media audiences, policymakers, government officials in order to be strategic and be an innovative thinker; an entrepreneurial leader with an advanced understanding of strategic communication experience including public relations, policy coordination, Congressional or intergovernmental affairs.

    Additional Duties
    Raise the profile of St. Joseph Center through traditional news media, public events, social media and other communications outlets, as well as public outreach.
    Oversee and update St Joseph Center branding, public outreach materials and graphic strategies and tactics.
    Other duties and special projects as assigned.
    Supervisory Responsibilities
    Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.

    Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

    Education & Experience
    Five years of managerial, supervisory experience.
    Ten years of program and operational experience.

    Bachelor's degree in Business, Political Science, Public Health, Public Policy, Administration, Social Work, or related field from a four-year university required.

    Master's degree in Business, Political Science, Public Health, Public Policy, Administration, Social Work, or related field preferred.
    Other Qualifications
    Possesses a valid driver's license and state-required auto insurance.
    Required to travel extensively (> 50% of the time).
    Ability to work without supervision.
    Ability to handle confidential information.

    Maintains patient privacy, including protecting the confidentiality, safeguarding the integrity and availability, and limiting the use and disclosure of Protected Health Information (PHI) to authorized individuals and entities.

    Participates in, conducts, and sustains performance quality improvement activities according to designated role and responsibilities.
    Sensitivity to service population's cultural and socioeconomic characteristics.
    Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    Punctual and dependable attendance.
    Free from alcohol and drug abuse.
    Understands SJC's basic philosophy and participates fully in carrying out its mission.
    Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
    None required.

    Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
    Mathematical Skills
    Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
    Reasoning Ability
    Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

    Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

    Computer Skills
    Must have advanced knowledge proficiency of computer programs in a Windows environment, including Word, Excel, and E-mail.
