Brief Description of Duties
The Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) seeks a program coordinator to conduct nutrition education in local communities throughout each ward in Washington DC.
The incumbent will report directly to the Senior Program Coordinator for EFNEP with the Center for Nutrition, Diet and Health, a center within the College of Agriculture Urban Sustainability and Environment Sciences (CAUSES) at the University of the District of Columbia.
The incumbent will have a passion for working collaboratively with community members and the ability to deliver community nutrition education.
S/he will work closely with the Senior Program Coordinator and the Center Director to ensure that all operational and training objectives of the Center are met.
Incumbent will assist with preparation of workshops, certificate programs, and nutrition education demonstrations as needed.Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Works directly with the Senior Program Coordinator for EFNEP on a daily basis to deliver community nutrition education.
Implements the community nutrition education programs in assigned locations throughout Washington, DC in designated locations in each ward.
Implements the nutrition education programs within public and charter schools as required to achieve program goals.
Conduct nutrition education learning experiences with identified audience by utilizing identified nutrition education curricula and food demonstrations.
Conducts workshops, demonstrations, and enrichment activities, which may include demonstrations at local farmers markets, guest speakers, hands-on activities, and extension staff training.
Assists with projects that enhance the educational outreach to the community especially as it relates to educating urban populations.
Records, itemizes, and submits records for operational purposes as directed and performs other related duties as assigned.
Works effectively and collaboratively with Program Coordinators, Project Assistants, Project Associates, Project Specialists in the Center for Nutrition Diet and Health (CNDH), and with faculty and staff of other Landgrant Centers in CAUSES and across the University.
Performs other duties as assigned including special assignments related to the areas of responsibility and the needs of the college.
The incumbent will hold a Bachelor of Science degree or significant demonstrated applicable experience in community nutrition education.
Demonstrated experience in successful community engagement with residents.
A strong work ethic and love of community nutrition programs.
Food safety certification or the ability to acquire certification.

Residency
Preference:
A person applying for a position who is a bona fide District resident at the time of application for the position, may be awarded a 10-point residency preference over non-District applicants, unless the person declines the preference points.
If selected, the person shall be required to present no less than 8 proofs of bona fide District residency on or before the effective date of the appointment and maintain such residency for 7 consecutive years from the effective date of the appointment.
Failure to maintain bona fide District residency for the 7-year period will result in forfeiture of employment.Drug-Free Workplace:
Pursuant to the requirements of the Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1988, the individual selected to fill this position will, as a condition of employment, be required to notify his/her immediate supervisor, in writing, not later than five (5) days after conviction of any criminal drug statute occurring in the workplace.
Background Investigation:
Employment with the University of the District of Columbia is contingent upon a satisfactory background investigation.
The determination of a "satisfactory backgroundinvestigation" is made at the sole discretion of the University of the District of Columbia.
The University may refuse to hire a finalist, rescind an offer of employment to a finalist or review and may terminate the employment of a current employee based on the results of a background investigation.
