    The Dermatology Referral Coordinator will handle incoming referrals from Dermatology physicians/offices; ensure referral (or authorization) on file with insurance carrier (if applicable) and updating information within medical software system. Maintain referral documentation. The role will also include scheduling clinic appointments and working with Dermatology offices to coordinate care and transfer demographic/insurance information. Will also serve as a back-up referral coordinator.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Coordinates and processes all incoming Dermatology referrals
    • Develop and maintain tracking system to support timelines
    • Data entry of referrals and/or insurance authorizations in NextGen
    • Ensure that all staff have up to date status on referrals and/or authorizations
    • Coordinate with Medical Assistant and Surgery Scheduler for emergent MOHS procedures; verifying correct demographics and billing information with referring office, loading information in medical software program (NextGen)
    • Verify if authorizations are needed for all Dermabrasions and In-Office procedures; communicate appropriately with staff.
    • Troubleshoots for external sources to expedite referral authorization
    • Troubleshoots and researches claim denials as needed for retro-referral or authorization requests
    • Responds to all phone calls from patients, physician offices and insurance plans on dermatology referrals
    • Ensures all referrals are coded with appropriate ICD9 and CPT codes, and monitors for timeliness
    • Books patient appointments for clinic consults with Dr. Lee.
    • Back-up referral coordinator
    • Other duties as assigned by the Administrator

    Job Qualifications

    Education / Certification/ Experience

    • Previous work experience in a medical setting
    • Experience with CPT and ICD10 coding, preferred

    Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

    • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and independently
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
    • Ability to organize, prioritize and work efficiently
    • Working knowledge of an electronic medical record
    • Knowledge of CPT and ICD10 coding
    • Ability to grasp new concepts and skills
    • Honesty and integrity

    Work may be performed in an office and clinical environment. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Use of telephone and computer is required. Manual dexterity required for use of computer keyboard. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 40 pounds. May requires working under stressful conditions or working irregular hours.
