    Description

    This position is responsible for creating an empowering environment and equitable services for all students with disabilities as well as promoting learning around disability awareness, advocacy, and practice.

    This position focuses on closing gaps to access, increasing persistence, degree completion, and college/university enrollment for prospective and enrolled students from minoritized and marginalized backgrounds and will develop and establish accommodation standards and practices for the students at GVSU.


    Primary Duties:

    • Lead all operations of Disability Support Resources, including strategic planning, visioning for the future, facilitating assessment and evaluation, budget management, and managing reports.
    • Review university policies and procedures related to accessibility and disability support. Stay current on local, state, and federal laws and regulations to ensure university compliance.
    • Interact with students to determine accommodations, connect them to resources, and troubleshoot issues that arise. Communicate to faculty, staff, students, parents, and guests about campus support programs and policies.
    • Direct and administer the delivery of support services for students with disabilities on all GVSU campuses including satellite locations (Allendale, Downtown Grand Rapids, Traverse City, Holland, Muskegon, and Detroit). Oversee the range of accommodation needs of students related to coursework, dining, transportation, information technology, teaching, research as well as other services.
    • Provide leadership, supervision, and mentorship to assigned direct reports, including setting yearly goals, professional development opportunities, and high standards for professionalism and service delivery.
    • Build awareness, knowledge, and skills related to disability as a part of GVSU's initiatives that involve disability, including serving as a content expert to ensure programs, resources and services are inclusive of students with disabilities.
    • Coordinate events and outreach efforts for students, faculty, and staff to raise awareness of issues related to ableism, including Disability Awareness Month activities, educational outreach during faculty and new student orientations, etc. Promote and support a culture of acceptance and inclusion for students with disabilities.
    • Educate faculty, staff, and students regarding all forms of disability. Ensure that technical standards and essential requirements are factored effectively into the accommodation processes, ensuring students have accessible and inclusive experiences.
    • Oversee academic advising to ensure the department is engaging and educating students on the use of technology, to promote the student's academic success.
    • Maintain records and statistics on services requested/provided and assist in the development of monthly and annual reports.

    Required Qualifications and Education:

    • Master's degree in business or public administration, counseling, higher education/student affairs, or related field.
    • Minimum of five to seven (5-7) years of related experience and/or training or equivalent combination.
    • Experience managing and supervising teams.
    • Budget, grant writing and implementation, and evaluation and assessment experience.
    • Experience directing programming efforts from design to assessment.
    • Experience managing websites and social media platforms.
    • Excellent written, verbal, presentation, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
    • Understanding of and commitment to issues of diversity, gender equity, and social justice.
    • Ability to work with students in crisis using a trauma-informed lens and familiarity with best practices,
    • A high degree of confidentiality, discretion, judgment, collaboration, and the ability to build strong relationships across campus and in the community,
    • Professional experience that includes demonstrated success in the management of disability resources and access.
    • Experience working collaboratively with various constituencies, including students, faculty, staff, and community members.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Three to five (3-5) years of progressive leadership in American Disability Act (ADA) work.
    • Experience related to retention intervention strategies in higher education.
    • Experience in higher education.

    Working Conditions:
    Normal office environment. Some travel may be required.

    SALARY:
    $75,000-$85,000 commensurate with experience

    Benefits are effective on the first day of employment
