    Job Summary We are searching for a Service Coordinator someone who works well in a fast-paced setting.

    In this position, you will support excellence in clinical practice and the care of patients in accordance with their developmental stages.

    The Service Coordinator will help in the daily operations of the service by assisting the Managers by promoting the development of other nursing professionals, demonstrating clinical expertise, and implementation of the departmental standards of nursing practice.

    Think you've got what it takes Responsibilities Assesses patients with input from the parent/family.

    Collects data from patient, family, laboratory, and other medical reports according to guidelines as documented on the Preoperative/Holding Area Assessment form.

    Completes nursing assessment of the patient/family including biological, psychological, age-appropriate developmental, environmental, cultural, and spiritual needs in an organized and systematic manner as documented on the Preoperative Assessment and Intraoperative Nursing Record as observed by the supervisor.

    Involves patient/family in the planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care.

    Develops a plan of care based upon the nursing assessment reflecting the biophysical, psychological, age appropriate developmental, environmental, cultural, and spiritual needs of the patient as observed by the supervisor.

    Facilitates the coordination of the surgical team (Scrub Nurse, Surgeon, and Anesthesiologist) as documented on the Intraoperative Nursing Record. Educates patients/families. Formulates, implements, and documents individual teaching plans based on patient/family assessment as observed by supervisor. Uses teaching strategies suitable for the learning ability of the patient/family as observed by the supervisor.

    Cares for one or more of the following age groups routinely:
    Neonates, Infants, Toddler, Preschool Age, School Age, adolescents, and Adult. Considers developmental age in approach to and preparation of child. Positions and handles child based on an understanding of developmental age. Demonstrates commitment to team, flexibility, professional interpersonal, communication, critical thinking, and customer service skills.

    Demonstrates consistent positive interpersonal skills in dealing with patients, families, and visitors to generate a feeling of trust and caring as observed by supervisor.

    Greets all patients, families, visitors, and coworkers in a professional, courteous, and respectful manner as observed by supervisor. Accountable for managing time and resources in a cost effective manner. Uses supplies and equipment appropriately, replacing unused supplies and equipment in their appropriate storage areas. Communicates delays or changes in the surgery schedule to the Charge Nurse.

    Coordinates, organizes, and supports all activities of designated specialty service, e.g., CHSS, ENT, Eye/Dental, General, Neurosurgery, Orthopedics, Plastics, Urology, and Transplant.

    To include but not limited to staffing of competent team members; availability of supplies and equipment; avoidance of scheduling conflicts relating to equipment, supplies; and maintaining procedure/preference cards.

    Acts as a liaison between the patient, physician, and operating room Qualifications Being fully vaccinated against COVID-19, including any booster dose(s) of the COVID-19 vaccine recommended by the Centers for Disease Control when eligible, is required for all employees at Texas Children's unless approved for a medical or religious exemption.

    Required Bachelor's Degree in nursing, Associate's Degree in nursing with acceptance or current enrollment in a BSN program and signed agreement (see comments below) or an associate's degree in a related field accepted by the Texas Board of Nursing for the purposes of obtaining and maintaining an RN license.

    Or Technical diploma in nursing with acceptance or current enrollment in a BSN program and signed agreement (see comments below).

    Or must be currently enrolled in a nursing bridge program working toward an MSN. Verified BSN-equivalency or a signed agreement is required.

    NEW HIRES AND TRANSFERS FROM TCP/TCU OR HP/HPC EFFECTIVE 4/1/19:

    New hires, current TCP/TCU employee, and HP/HPC employees who enter the role effective 4/1/19 require either (1) a bachelor's degree or (2) an associate's degree or technical diploma with current enrollment in a BSN program and a signed agreement to obtain a BSN.

    TRANSFERS FROM TCH/TWS/TPG EFFECTIVE 4/1/19:Current Texas Children's employees already in RN-required jobs who enter the role effective 4/1/19 require either a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, an Associate's Degree in Nursing or an associate's degree in a related field accepted by the Texas Board of Nursing for the purposes of obtaining and maintaining an RN license, or a Technical Diploma in Nursing.

    • Lic-Registered Nurses by the Texas Board of Nursing or Nursing Licensure Compact and BLS
    • Cert-Basic Life Support BLS
