    Description

    Summary

    The Smithsonian Institution is the world's largest museum, education, and research complex, with 21 museums and the National Zoo. This position is located in the Smithsonian Institution, Office of Protection Services. The Office of Protection Services is responsible for overseeing, a large museum/complex law enforcement and security program and leading and providing protection throughout the Smithsonian Institution.

    Duties

    The Purchasing Agent will be responsible for purchasing and financial processing, supporting organizational management and personnel in a wide range of other management areas.

    In this position you will:

  • Support the effective, prompt and policy-compliant procurement of goods and services for the office through use of purchase orders, purchase cards, online travel tools, miscellaneous reimbursement, and inter-unit transfer procedures.
  • Serve as a Procurement Officer with delegated authority from the Smithsonian Office of Contracting (OCON) to sign individual purchase orders and travel documents up to $25,000 in value.
  • Perform monthly review and approval of purchase card charges loaded into financial system.
  • Record procurement transactions to financial database or spreadsheet to monitor progress of vendor invoices.
  • Prepare monthly reports of funds obligated on purchase orders, travel authorizations, and contracts.
  • Create, organize, and maintain procurement training and job aid materials for Unit staff.
