    ABOUT THE POSITION
    Bridge Technical Design Lead - Structures | Richmond, Williamsburg, Virginia Beach

    VHB is seeking a Bridge Technical Design Lead to expand our structural practice/capabilities across I064 in Virginia.

    In this position, you would serve in a lead technical role in the planning, analysis, design, and detailing of bridge and other transportation related structural projects, from railroad to highway, as well as mentor our structural team.

    The ideal candidate should possess a "can-do" attitude, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and an ability to work independently as well as with a team in a dynamic, fast-paced, and fun environment.

    Responsibilities


    • Oversees the technical design of structural engineering projects
    • Project management/task management
    • Prepares proposals and/or contracts; Participates in project decisions regarding technical approach, costs, and scheduling
    • Directs and mentors team members in the development of design plans, technical oversight, specifications, design calculations, load ratings, cost estimates, reports, final bid packages, etc.
    • Performs quality reviews of team members work for accuracy and to ensure that the production of plans, specifications, reports, and analyses meet scope, schedule, cost, and quality requirements
    • Manages, develops, organizes, and implements structural planning, analysis, preliminary and final design document preparation for bridge-focused transportation projects

    • Knowledge of structural engineering software (AASHTOWare, Midas Civil, MDX, SP Column, MerlinDASH, Mathcad)
    • AutoCAD Civil 3D, Bentley OpenBridge, MicroStation v8 and Connect experience is a strong plus
    Qualifications


    • 11-15 years of professional experience in structural bridge design, construction phasing, and complex bridge projects required (1 year of experience may be substituted for a Master's degree)
    • 15+ years of experience in structural bridge design preferred
    • VDOT experience is preferred
    • PE license required
    • BS in Civil Engineering required (structural emphasis preferred)
    • Master's degree with structural emphasis a plus
    • Experience completing transportation studies, design reports, final design documents and developing contract plans, in conformity with accepted engineering standards and procedures
    • Independent experience developing bridge design and detailing (steel, concrete, prestressed concrete), and seismic analysis
