    Hennepin County Public Health is seeking two Senior Administrative Assistants in the Community Health and Strategic Initiatives area, one Food Security Coordinator and one Community Health Strategic Initiatives (CHSI) Coordinator. Both positions will lead the development and implementation of health and racial equity focused, comprehensive, and culturally responsive action plans through policy, system, and environmental changes. These two positions will function as liaisons between systems, departments, communities, and jurisdictions to make sure services are seamlessly delivered, parties are working together effectively, and that plans are developed and implemented.

    Location and hours:
    These positions are hybrid and will be performed both remote and on-site at the Health Services Building - 525 Portland Avenue South, Minneapolis, Minnesota, and at various community locations. The office location may change per business needs. Typical work hours will be Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. with flexibility. While these positions are designated as hybrid, based on current requirements hires must reside in or relocate to Minnesota or Wisconsin.

    New employees who are hired into remote or hybrid positions between January 2, 2022 to December 31, 2024, will receive $500 toward the cost of establishing consistent internet connectivity, payable upon completion of 6 months of employment.

    In each position, you will:
    Perform specialized work in the following areas:

  • Food Security Coordinator: This position will act as a subject matter expert on food security, function as the public voice for food security, and lead implementation of the countywide Food Security plan.
  • CHSI Coordinator: This position will lead strategic initiatives and public health cross functional projects in collaboration with multiple areas and multiple stakeholders.
  • In both positions, you will:
  • Lead all aspects of the planning and implementation of areawide, departmentwide, and countywide plans including engaging, convening, and supporting county staff and community stakeholders.
  • Design and implement complex projects including work plan development, and reporting to department and county leadership and other stakeholders.
  • Develop, implement, and lead community engagement plans including partnership development, relationship building, qualitative data collection, and ongoing engagement efforts.
  • Communicate in writing and verbally with internal and external stakeholders. Prepare and present information targeted at a wide variety of stakeholders including written reports, work plans, articles, power point presentations, etc. Write grant applications to secure additional funding to implement plan(s) and manage grants.
  • Function as a lead worker providing work direction to professional, paraprofessional, support staff, interns, students, and volunteers to ensure the attainment of program goals and objectives; set and adjust priorities for individuals working on creating and implementing the plan.
  • Lead team(s) to develop a system(s) for tracking, analyzing, and sharing timely comprehensive data and performance indicators.
  • Develop, maintain, and monitor contractual and grant funded services and relationships as the service area lead.
  • Need to have:
    One of the following:
  • Eight years or more of general administrative work related to the management of departmental/organizational operations or in a specialty area appropriate to the position.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in public administration, business administration or related field and four years or more of experience in general administrative work relating to the management of departmental/organizational operations or in a specialty area appropriate to the position.
  • Nice to have:
  • Experience:Designing and implementing large project(s) from beginning to end involving multiple stakeholders.With community engagement processes designed to promote healthy environments, and strengthen community action, and health education. With project organization, management, evaluation and completion.Working with diverse populations that may present with social vulnerabilities who have a history of experiencing barriers to health and wellbeing. Using Microsoft or Google programs including Word/Google Docs, Excel/Google Sheets PowerPoint/Google Slides and Outlook.
  • Ability to:Identify and discuss issues of race and racism.Demonstrate understanding of cultural differences and the impacts of racism on service provision, organizational effectiveness, and on relationships with staff, partners, and those we serve.Be strategic, flexible, and a creative thinker.Develop effective working relationships with diverse communities experiencing racial and health disparities.Develop effective working relationships with leaders in local agencies and organizations, across county departments, and/or jurisdictional lines (county, city, state, community).
  • Knowledge of:Food security systems, issues, and solutions (Food Security Coordinator).Public Health approaches and practices.Policy, system and environmental changes and approaches.
