PARK INTERPRETIVE SPECIALIST (SEASONAL) – MONTEREY DISTRICT / MONTEREY SECTOR
Priority consideration will be given to any person receiving State public assistance under the CalWORKS program. Applicants who receive State public assistance need to identify their status as a CalWORKS recipient in the comments area on the application. Applicants must submit a verification of their CalWORKS eligibility status, which may include the most recent Notice of Action showing TANF eligibility or a copy of your last aid check stub. The reporting location is Point Lobos State Natural Reserve, Route 1, Box 62, Carmel. This position will work under the direction of the State Park Interpreter III with daily operations lead by the Point Lobos Lead Interpreter I.
Does working with kids in the outdoors interest you? If so, then this job with California State Parks may be a great way to spend your summer. California State Parks is accepting applications for the Point Lobos Summer Adventures Outdoor Program Counselor. The program includes three sessions during the 2024 summer season. You will be responsible for organizing, scheduling, and providing management of program activities and oversight of Summer Adventures seasonal staff. You will also assist in guiding students, ages 8 to 12 through a series of outdoor adventures that includes hiking, rock climbing, kayaking, whale watching, arts and crafts, and much more. Previous experience overseeing children's activities programs and a desire to work with children is necessary. This position involves program organizational skills as well as general customer service and / or educational experience.
Additional consideration will be given to applicants with experience in the following areas: recreation, education/interpretation, and children's programs. Applicants should enjoy working with children, and will be expected to participate in outdoor activities. Applicants must be able to lift up to 20lbs; stand for long periods of time; hike up to five miles in a day; feel confident in an ocean kayaking environment; is able to participate in whale watching program with students.
