    Position Summary:


    The mission of Pierce College is to create quality educational opportunities to a diverse community of learners to thrive in an evolving world.


    The Pierce College Foundation Accounting Supervisor (Fiscal Analyst 4) is a senior level supervisory accountant who works independently to perform a variety of complex fiscal support functions and to communicate financial policies to members of the district.

    The incumbent provides fiscal oversight to the Foundation's (a 501c3) accounting work. The incumbent performs budget and accounting duties, analysis, a variety of reconciliations, and financial reporting.

    This position also supervises an additional accounting and fiscal services staff member who is responsible for the day to day work.

    This position reports to the Associate Vice President for Fiscal Services and requires regular and consistent attendance.


    Essential Functions:

    Reporting:


    Preparation of complex reports for internal and external parties, including but not limited to: the State Auditor's Office, external auditing entities, and the Board of the Pierce College Foundation.

    Assists the Associate Vice President with the preparation of FASB-compliant financial statements for the Pierce College Foundation.

    Reconciles bank accounts and investment accounts.

    Initiates and develops fiscal management reports as required for effective accounting and management practices.

    Leadership & Supervision


    Provides management guidance to staff for long-term fiscal cyclic requirements; determines deadlines and plans staffing requirements for special fiscal projects; initiates and develops fiscal management reports as required for effective accounting and management practices.


    Interviews and hires applicants, trains new employees, assigns and schedules work, acts upon leave requests, conducts annual performance evaluations and recommends necessary disciplinary actions.

    Provides opportunities for individual skill development and knowledge through training, coaching, and meaningful and timely evaluation. Focuses employees' attention on their contributions to District attainment of its vision, mission, and values.

    Foundation Accounting and Internal Controls

    Maintain ledger accounts and analyze fiscal data.

    Develop or recommend working procedures to improve fiscal operations.

    Assist higher-level staff with financial summary information, analysis of financial reports, and development of working fiscal procedures.

    Review trial balances and prepare adjusting entries.

    Prepare and complete year end closing.

    Assist auditors.

    Analyze, review and make recommendations for the accelerations of revenue transfers.

    Develop and maintain internal controls to safeguard the Foundation's resources and assets.

    Balance the need for internal controls with best practices for effective and efficient operations.

    Provide fiscal support for Foundation fundraising events, such as assisting at registration and check out.

    Coordinates and oversees employees who volunteer to perform cash handling duties at these events, which often occur outside of business hours.

    Team Work


    Participates with and serves as backup for other Finance Department activities, including but not limited to: mailing of Refund, Accounts Payable, Payroll, and Financial Aid checks.

    Assists in preparation of records annually for archival.

    Completes special projects as assigned by the Director of Budget and Finance or Associate Vice President of Fiscal Services.


    Required Education:


    Some college level coursework including at least 15 quarter, or 10 semester, hours in accounting, auditing, or budgeting from an accredited college or university.


    Required Experience:
    Experience with data entry.

    Experience monitoring expenditures and reconciling funds and accounts.

    Comprehensive understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).

    Computer literacy; experience using spreadsheets, word processing and fiscal management software.


    Special Requirements:
    The successful candidate must consent to and pass a criminal records background checkaftera conditional offer of employment.

    Required Competencies:

    Working knowledge of accounting standards and fiscal requirements for 501(c)(3) organizations. Ability to perform budget analysis, a variety of reconciliations, and financial reporting for 501(c)(3) organizations.

    Ability to work with a complex fund structure, detailed budgets, and extensive chart of accounts.
