    SUMMARY

    The Vice Provost for Academic Affairs supports the Provost and Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs in maintaining a flourishing and diverse community of artists through a focus on student achievement and satisfaction, high-quality academic programs with relevant curricular structures, excellent faculty and sound teaching practices, functional learning spaces, appropriate instructional and student-support technology, and efficient administrative policies and procedures that address the complex needs of the Institute. The Vice Provost accomplishes this work by leading the curriculum lifecycle for all degree and non-degree programs; overseeing academic planning, program review, assessment, and special academic initiatives; ensuring review of and compliance with academic policies; collaborating with Student Affairs on programming and policies to sustain student needs; and supervising the offices of the Registrar and Academic Advising.

    This is a twelve-month, full time academic administrative position. The post is an exempt position with four weeks of paid vacation per year, to be scheduled in consultation with the Provost.

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

    Academic Affairs
    • Support the Provost in short and long-term curricular planning and innovation by clearly affirming the vision and goals for Academic Affairs and in relation to the academic action plan and institute strategic framework
    • Collaborate with school deans and program directors to review, revise, and develop new academic programs to expand the richness and relevance of Institute offerings
    • Provide facilitation and guidance to faculty in the planning and implementation of academic initiatives while ensuring alignment with Institute's strategic goals; lead initiatives that fall outside of the schools or do not have a clear academic home
    • Steward curricular minors and other curricular offerings under the purview of the Provost Office
    • Collaborate with leaders in Enrollment Management, Institutional Effectiveness, and the Office of Communications to promote the growth and expansion of programs
    • Develop Institute academic and administrative policies and work with appropriate academic units and administrative offices to ensure compliance
    • Chair, manage, or participate in Institute committees and work groups at the direction of the Provost
    • Represent the Provost's Office by communicating effectively and maintaining productive relationships within the Institute community and external partners
    Registrar, Academic Advising, and Student Support
    • Oversee the work of the Assistant Provost for Academic Advising and Student Success to identify challenges and issues impacting student learning, well-being, or progress to degree, and propose evidence-based recommendations to ensure continuous improvement. Shepherd these recommendations through relevant governance structures
    • Collaborate and consult extensively with schools, departments, offices, and individuals across the Institute to understand and enhance the experience of all students
    • Ensure fair and equitable standards and policies for students in academic/metier standing and appeals processes, academic misconduct, grade appeals, etc.
    • Supervise the Registrar and ensure a service-oriented and student-focused approach to the responsibilities of this office
    • Directly supervise, coach, and professionally develop the Registrar and Assistant Provost for Academic Advising and Student Success
    Other Duties

    • Knowledge of long-range planning practices and within higher education
    • Skills in project planning, management, and implementation
    • Thorough understanding, appreciation, and adherence to shared governance protocols and practices
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality of personnel matters and other private information or materials
    • Knowledge of accrediting standards and reporting procedures
    • Knowledge of data collection and analysis, assessment, and evaluation practices
    • Familiarity with relevant software and general openness to learning new technology
    Qualifications

    EDUCATION
    • The successful candidate must hold a terminal degree in arts, education, or a relevant field or have equivalent experience.
    EXPERIENCE
    • At least five years of experience in higher education administration, preferably an arts-based institution
    • Extensive supervisory experience, including the hiring, professional development, and performance management of director-level staff
    • Experience teaching at a postsecondary level

    Salary

    The Institute expects to offer a salary within the following range: $165,000-$183,000
