    Counselor, Full-time Faculty (2 openings)
    Community College of Philadelphia seeks a full-time, tenure-track Generalist Counselor at the Main Campus beginning Fall 2024.

    Under the supervision of the chairperson of the counseling department, the counselor is an integral member of the college community, providing personal counseling, career guidance, and advisement services for students to help them determine and achieve their educational, vocational and personal objectives.

    Counselors help students to identify, alleviate and/or eliminate factors that may impede student's possible success in the areas of academic, vocational and/or personal achievement.

    Community College of Philadelphia is an open-admission, associate-degree-granting institution which provides access to higher education for all who may benefit.

    Its programs of study in the liberal arts and sciences, career technologies, and basic academic skills provide a coherent foundation for college transfer, employment and lifelong learning.

    To help address broad economic, cultural and political concerns in the city and beyond, the College draws together students from a wide range of ages and backgrounds and seeks to provide the programs and support they need to achieve their goals.

    Teaching faculty are an integral part of the larger Academic and Student Success Division at CCP including Workforce Development or Career Training.

    Provide academic, career and personal counseling to a diverse community college student population.

    ~ Participate in student orientation sessions, classroom presentations, assessment interpretations, and outreach activities.

    ~ Meet with students in a variety of formats including in-person, phone and zoom.

    ~ Develop, plan and conduct workshops to assist student retention. Such workshops may include, but are not limited to classroom visitations, peer support groups, career exploration, transfer planning, stress management and cultural diversity.

    ~ Consult with faculty and members of the college community regarding students' learning, behavioral and emotional needs.

    ~ Attend staff meeting and professional development activities.

    ~ Work one evening a week.

    ~ May be assigned minor administrative duties.

    ~ External and

    Internal Community Relations:

    Actively participate in the academic life of the College; including participation in graduation, recruitment events, general assemblies, student life activities and other cross functional teams.

    Create learning opportunities for students inside and outside of the classroom including opportunities to teach dual-enrollment high school students.

    ~ Respect for Diversity:

    Demonstrate an understanding of, and sensitivity to, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of the College's faculty, staff and students.

    ~ Assessment:

    Full participation in the assessment of student learning and student learning outcomes at the course, program, and institution levels.

    ~ Strive for excellence in teaching, applying best practices in field of discipline, and modeling behaviors that encourage student success and retention. Utilize innovative teaching strategies and technologies for online learning and other technology tools to meet the learning needs of a diverse student population. Maintain office hours to meet with students outside of the classroom and respond to questions or concerns.

    ~ Remain current in the use of technology, developments within the field of discipline, and developments related to teaching and student success.

    An earned Master's degree in counseling or closely related field required.

    ~1 to 3 years of recent (within the last five years) experience working with a diverse college student population in a counseling setting and/or other capacity at a college or university setting.

    ~ Strong technology skills required, including demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office products; working knowledge of web browser and related technologies.

    ~ MUST BE AVAILABLE TO TRAVEL TO VARIOUS CAMPUS LOCATIONS.

    Demonstrated experience teaching within a community college.
    Bilingual or other language proficiency.
