    Description

    Job Description

    Records, codes and deposits charge card, cash and check payments received by the hospital. Identifies patient account numbers and applies payments. Maintains proper level of cash to complete various transactions, such as petty cash, cashing checks and staff parking vouchers.

    Job Responsibility

    • Prepares cash and checks, daily, for bank deposit. Orders coins and bills by phone and through check request from bank, when necessary.
    • Receives and records funds in logbook at cashier window. Researches and identifies patient account numbers to receive and apply payments.
    • Maintains the proper level of cash to complete various cash transactions, such as petty cash reimbursements, accepting payments from patients, providing coins for other areas, cashing checks, etc
    • Balances cash tray daily. Maintains daily cash log, and reconciles; cash and receipts equal the designated amount that should be in the tray. Reports any discrepancies to Supervisor. Prepares check request for petty cash reimbursements.
    • Receives and records in logbook patient valuable envelopes from the Security department. Conducts a weekly inventory of items on hand.
    • Processes charge patient payments through utilization of credit card machine. Verification is made, a receipt is written and a batch is created and sent to cash control.
    • Collects vouchers and public transportation forms daily from the clinic areas.Verifies pertinent information is present. Summarizes and sends information to data entry and to Medicaid.
    • Arranges taxi service for clinic patients that are unable to use public transportation. Dispenses Metrocards to Medicaid patients that provide the appropriate forms.
    • Maintains a prenatal clinic log book to keep a record of payments received since these payments must be made in full before delivery.
    • Performs special projects/tasks as requested by Supervisor.
    • Performs related duties, as required.

    Job Qualification
    • High School diploma or equivalent, required.
    • Minimum one (1) year experience cashiering or related experience in cash transactions, required.
    • Ability to communicate effectively with the public, required.
    • Ability to utilize software applications (Excel and/or Lotus), credit card machine, and calculator, required.
    • Detail oriented and strong oral and interpersonal communication skills, required.
    • Bilingual, preferred.

    The salary range for this position is $24.53-$26.99/hour
