    Job Description Summary


    The primary function of this position is to provide IACUC required species-specific hands-on training for scientists, ULAR staff training, and/or training of others who care for or use laboratory animals at the University of Pennsylvania and to support education and wellness programs and initiatives for all ULAR and research staff.

    This position will work primarily with the Senior Training and Wellness Specialists or independently based on task. This position will provide ULAR staff education, assist with ULAR wellness activities/training, and teach special classes and programs. This position may assist with updating SOPs. This position will serve as a Workday administrator for the Animal Care and Use section.

    This position will be responsible for preparing training materials and supplies, scheduling training, and managing and documenting course completion and training records, providing customer service, and ensuring that all required information is effectively presented to those who attend training sessions.

    This position may maintain training animal colony and maintain/order training supplies.

    This person will also be encouraged to participate in outside organizations and training opportunities to increase positive visibility for the University of Pennsylvania's training and wellness program.

    Job Responsibilities


    • Lead IACUC required species-specific hands-on training & special request training for scientists, ULAR staff training, and/or training others who care for or use animals used for research, teaching, or testing or work in ULAR areas. This includes preparing training materials, clean-up/set-up, etc.
    • Workday administration.
    • ULAR wellness initiatives.
    • SOP updates, training animal colony management.
    • Performs other related duties as assigned.
    Qualifications


    • HS diploma or GED and 5 to 7 years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience, are required. Associate degree or 2-year college coursework preferred ALAT preferred, 3-5 years experience in lab animal science or care required, past teaching or training experience preferred, required interest in wellness programming and planning.
