Friends Hospital is the nation's oldest private psychiatric hospital, located on a beautiful 100-acre campus in Philadelphia, PA. Friends Hospital offers a continuum of care including level of care assessments; specially designed inpatient units for adolescents, adults, and older adults; and a private residential rehabilitation program. ***: As directed by the Director/Assistant Director of the Crisis Response Center and Referral, the Call/Referral Specialist coordinates admission functions, provides telephonic and in person risk assessment and crisis intervention, initial contact with referral sources and potential patients, coordinates the referral and intake process, completes preliminary insurance verification/ pre-certification completes all required computer data entry, determines appropriate level of care, facilitates the admission process and maintains communication with referral sources, families, patients and unit staff. In addition to this, the A&R Call/Referral Specialist will be responsible for training and educating new call specialists to assure that they accurately acclimate to the functions of the job.


QUALIFICATIONS:

Education / Experience: A minimum of five (5) years' experience working in an intake, admissions or crisis intervention department along with at least three (3) years' experience in a psychiatric or mental health setting, along with direct experience in call management and customer relations. A Bachelor's degree in a mental health related field required, master's degree preferred.

Additional Requirements: Successful completion of all credentialing requirements including but not limited to education and credentialing within 30 days from date of hire. CPR/AED certification and successful completion of Handle with Care (HWC) required. The Call/Referral Specialist must possess good verbal and written communication skills. They may be asked to work overtime and have flexible hours.

  • Knowledge of patient rights, advance directives, adult and child abuse laws, and emergency involuntary detention.

  • Skill in organizing and prioritizing workloads to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with patients, coworkers, and other hospital customers.
  • Ability to adhere to safety policies and procedures.
  • Ability to use good judgment and to maintain confidentiality of information in accordance with HIPAA guidelines and standards.
  • Ability to work independently as well as a member of a team.
  • Ability to demonstrate tact, resourcefulness, and patience in a fastpaced environment.
  • Ability to accept direction, adhere to policies and procedures, and meet required deadlines.
  • Ability to recognize the importance of adapting to the various patient age groups (adolescent, adult and geriatric).

Pay:
$ $22.83 per hour
