Under the supervision of the TB Epidemiology and Surveillance Group Manager and the direction of the TB Surveillance Team Lead, performs moderately complex disease surveillance work within the TB and Hansen's Disease Unit.

Develops reporting forms and performs data entry, data quality checks and processes to ensure the completeness and accuracy of TB surveillance data.

Works closely with local and regional surveillance sites to monitor performance to ensure timeliness, consistency and accuracy of reporting and data collection.

Work involves planning, developing, and implementing the Unit's surveillance activities and providing consultative services and technical assistance to program staff, government agencies, community organizations, or the general public.

May provide guidance to others. Works under general supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.


Essential Job Functions:


Attends work on a regular and predictable schedule in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned (20%) Performs data entry, data management and data quality assurance for TB targeted testing reports from congregate settings such as homeless shelters and drug rehabilitation centers.

Working in concert with TB epidemiology and surveillance program staff, designs surveillance program tracking and quality assurance measures for reporting in the Texas TB surveillance system.

Assists in the design of workflows, reports, and other surveillance system tools to gauge the level of compliance of contracted and partner surveillance sites with DSHS guidelines.

Produce reports to give to central office and surveillance sites on targeted testing outcomes from congregate settings. Creates files for analysis as needed.
- (15%) Provides support and collaborates in the planning, development, implementation, analysis, and documentation of the Unit's disease surveillance program. May develop and update procedure and training manuals and case report forms for TB and Hansen's Disease surveillance activities. Also provides training as necessary related to case reporting and data entry. Participates in special projects for the TB and Hansen's Disease Unit.
- (5%) Other TB and Hansen's Disease Unit's surveillance and agency related duties as assigned. In the event of a regional or state-wide disaster, all staff will participate, assist, and support all regional and/or state-wide disaster relief efforts. Responds to and supports regional/statewide disaster relief efforts.


Knowledge Skills Abilities:

- local, state, and federal laws related to TB reporting and TB control

Registration or Licensure Requirements:

Current and valid Texas driver's license


Initial Selection Criteria:


  • Bachelor's degree with major coursework in public health, social sciences, or closely related field.
  • 2. Experience collecting and interpreting data; and performing data entry.

  • The salary offered will follow DSHS starting salary guidelines. Any employment offer is contingent upon available budgeted funds.
