Accountant III

  • This position offers hybrid schedule which consists of telework and in office work.
  • Performs moderately complex accounting work. Work involves preparing financial statements and reports; interpret and resolve customer inquires; transaction entry into laboratory medical billing system; organize, audit and coordinates the work of others. Works under general supervision of the Billing Branch Manager with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgement. Uses discretion and maintains strict confidentiality of sensitive information.

Essential Job Functions:

Attends work on a regular and predictable schedule in accordance with agency leave policy.

  • Reviews and audits accounting and financial documents for accuracy. Research and reconcile discrepancies in accounts. Process payments and vouchers, performs daily corrections, adjusting and closing of transactions.
Maintain a working knowledge of federal, state, enterprise, agency and unit policies, processes and procedures, as well as related enterprise training, for privacy requirements when handling data falling into any of the following categories:
HIPAA-Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, PHI-Protected Health Information, PII-Personally Identifiable Information, and SPI-Sensitive Personal Information. Must keep all Billing Branch records, patient information confidential.

Participates in the preparing and printing of weekly and month billing statements.- Be able to process Electronic billing files are processed according to policy and procedures, accurately and within required timeframe.


  • Ensure backup is cross trained on applicable tasks and procedures for these tasks are current.
  • Other duties as assigned

To include, but not limited to: serve as back-up to the Accountant II's and Accountant III's and assist others as needed; assist in the development of and participate in special projects; Performs related duties as assigned that include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency's obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or continuity of operations (COOP) activation.

Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location.
