UNFCCC COP 23

As the world prepares for another UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Conference of the Parties (COP) event, COP 23 in November 2017 I offer this to those who will participate.  I doubt that this will find its way to anyone attending the COP, but in using the graphic that says “You Decide” understand that the “you” includes Me and at the time of writing about 7,505,424,500 and growing other “Us-ns” out here.

I Dare You to embrace a different mentality about ONE EARTH as it is the only one we have!

Does it really matter if mankind is accelerating the change or if it is a natural and/or cyclical occurrence?  The reality is that something is happening and if we sit around with our heads in the dirt, then we will just perpetuate the nonsense and suffer the consequences whatever they may be. 

What are some of the problems that make this so difficult?

· Economic

· Scientific Yin and Yang-“isms”

· Global social, cultural and demographic nuances

· Technological

· Diplomatic

· Informational

· Opinion

· Obfuscating rhetoric

· Power

· Influence

· Action needed and scale of response

· Trust

There are others, but lest we continue to dilute the challenges, I merely name just a sampling that perpetuates the world of real and the make believe.

In the end does it really matter?

Something is happening and despite some really good work, we need to substantively use some sweat equity as "mind-benders" and truly bend our gray matter and change the legacy of complacency, inaction and distraction.

As the members of the Conference of the Parties prepare to convene for yet another COP, might we try to enable our collective intellect; our processes, policies and procedures and the politics behind it all to actually do something different and do the right things because they are the right things to do?

Let’s not just come out of another COP with another series of sensational press releases and sound bites that sound really cool while the rest of the world continues to watch a perpetuation of the madness behind it all.
