Respect--Let's Meet in the Middle and Just Start Over

c139ffc2.jpgMy first Honey post.
I feel things deeply sometimes and felt compelled to say something on this--why not make it my first post.

This morning I open my Facebook and LinkedIn to see that once again, more people have lost their lives again because they chose a profession to serve and protect citizens. My heart and deepest condolences to those that have lost loved ones.

To continue to serve and protect even those that are hate filled against them for putting on a uniform and badge -- for what? Why? How come?

It angers me. It saddens me. It really freaking scares me.

Is it just me or has respect for those in those careers been conveniently removed from some peoples morals and ethics? Where did their parents or guardians fail in that lesson--or do they just choose to forget that lesson? Why is it something to be proud of—to harm or kill anyone? Correct me if Im wrong but killing and stealing were wrong long before it ever became a law no matter what side of the planet you live on.

Growing up I was instilled with respect for everyone, regardless of their job but more specifically for those that would lay down their life to save me…even though they don’t know me from a peanut. This respect extends to any and all that put on a uniform. Police, Military, Security...

What is worse, those same hate filled people will be one of the first to call upon those that they so discrepantly and with prejudice have caused ill will or have shouted to harm them all the while dissing them for whatever made up reason.

Has a policeman in the line of duty had to defend himself? YES—wouldn’t you? Know one knows if the weapon being held is fake or not. How hard is it to comply with a request from an officer? With cell phones these days and the cameras no on policemen, there is always a video record of the situation--but people still refuse to see what they see..they only choose to believe what ever helps their cause.

Would I jump in and help an Officer if he was being harmed and couldn’t protect himself…Yes, I would. I would probably be hurt or killed along with him, but I would also know that I did the right thing.  He would do it for me.

This segregation lie of blue and black lives, (which, where the heck did that start?) Ill say it: Bull Hockey! That’s right, BULL…HOCKEY!   Who CARES–that blue, black lives thing is just an excuse to be stupid, mean and hateful, which doesn’t sit will in my book.

Those that wear blue are not only white but also black. They are or could also be Indian, Native American, Eskimo, Catholic, Jewish, Pagan.  They are someone's son, daughter, spouse, friend, the list goes on… The point is: We are all human—we all bleed red. (If you have any other color of blood, you my friend, are a science experiment).

To not serve a policeman his food, to ban anyone from any place because of his color or uniform is just back ass stupid.  What are we doing?  Going backward instead of forward?  Heck..let's take away the vote for women while we are at it.

Why is there so much hate against our own when this is the time we should all be coming together standing strong against those who want what is happening to continue to weaken us for a take over. (Ok..that last part is my own conspiracy theory). We all have to share this planet.

Maybe we should all meet in the middle, forgive and just start over.  Learn some respect for one another--you dont have to 'like' each other, just be respectful.  Live and let live.

I do not understand why this continues to happen. I repeat: It angers me. It saddens me. It scares me.

I agree Jim Murray --It did start with 9/11..or at least bring these issues to light where as maybe they were always there just hidden under the rug. I have always wondered why people treat others they way they do and just dont understand.....I just dont get it and never will I suppose. Sadly the few bad apples in the barrel make all the other good ones look bad too because they share the same barrel.

@Gloria Ochoa This hatred and division are all seeds that have been sown in America since 9/11 made Americans paranoid about safety and leery of people who were not like them. Eventually this led to a revival of racism which broadened in scope domestically. A small percentage of cops have always treated both blacks and hispanics as potentially lethal threats, despite the fact that only a relatively small percentage of them actually are. But most recently the endless racial bigotry of Trump and several other Republican presidential hopefuls and the 24/7 news coverage these fools are given have ignited embers that have been smoldering for years. The cop killings are simply the most powerful statement that has been made so far against institutionalized racism, which has turned into murder. I have no doubt that this will continue until something breaks. And that could be a long time. Because black people in America live in fear 24/7 of the police. Now the police are experiencing first hand what that fear is like. I am not condoning this, because I think it's all wrong. I am merely reflecting what I see. I have always been mystified at the idea that any one race of people were superior or inferior to another race. It just never made sense to me, since at our core we are all just homo sapiens. Our superficial differences are what make us interesting to each other, or at least they should. I'm sure it's a lot more complex that that. But I'm also not sure it needs to be. Your piece genuinely expresses the mystification a lot of us are feeling these days.

I admire your spirit and your hope. I fear for the ability to achieve the outcome but wish heartily for a world where mutual respect reigns. Thanks for this Gloria Ochoa

Mark-I agree--but he also has his supporters helping too, right? I really didnt want to make this about the govt or lack there of--more about the people that are out in the trenches. (lack of word there). For some reason it really hit me today of all the lives that are lost in the heat of the moment and an argument that just doesnt end.

@Gloria Ochoa - I think it's safe to say that most of us would, if we could. But we can't. Blood feuds rarely end, until one family or the other is obliterated. Still, there is plenty of room in the world for the kind of wisdom you are proposing here. Good post. Good luck. And cheers!

The office is the modern jungle .... and it's survival of the fittest! But, since you have a conscience, I'm going to tell you how you to play in a way that is respectful, while still moving you in the direction you want to go. To the top! You see, in office politics, you can play nicely ,but stay police is protect our homes.
