Arguing simply to ague?

Arguing simply to ague?

819c6e68.jpg

We have all been there listening and even upon occasion getting involved with a discussion or even an argument that truly had no point or reason yet the argument went on. Why? It is that important to express our opinion or to win? Why would we be a part of a pointless debate?

If you take the time to actually listen to the topics of conversation around you I expect that you might be amazed at just how many of them have no point. How often do we find ourselves in conversation that turn into debates that have no reason. Does it matter if they truly enjoy coffee or tea? Does it change the world if they prefer one team over another. Yes friendly rivalry is great and can add more than just a little fun and excitement to an event but seriously arguing over a call that was a day ago?

We live in societies that are more often than not filled with conflict and frustration so why do we want to add to it? A work environment can be full of needed debates and quick decisions, do we really need to add to the confusion and added frustration over opinions which have no real bearing?

Take a moment and evaluate the conversation you are having and decide if it matters before taking it into a debate or worse and argument. A proper discussion is a very valuable tool and a debate is great for learning and obtaining a better point of view, but they can very easily turn into an argument. Arguments are all about winning, so make sure the point that is being made is worthy of the fight.

You are a big part of your environment and the atmosphere around you so it behooves you to do what you can to create a space in it that counteracts the level of frustration and tension common in most work places. You can be the greatest tool to your own peace but it is up to you.

Blessings
