the Computer and the Brain

I have stumbled into the work of John von Neumann and the brain. Math rears its ugly head again.  I am 70 and feel like I cannot become mathematically fluent enough to talk the talk with the time left to me.

In 1981, my brain-damaged 6-year-old was committed to a psychiatric unit as being a danger to himself and others.  It was a unit created for such children—brain-damaged by their baby shots. I vividly recall having to back off from the idea that the brain was a chemical/electric device because of the look of horror on my son’s social worker’s face when I said it. 

If it was already being contemplated, why was I the bad guy? [Was it being contemplated back then?]

I am so kicking myself in the behind for passing up that further education in 1976 to take care of Paul.  It’s even worse that they already knew what had happened to him.  He was violent from the age of at least 2.  They knew and they persecuted the parents. 

I can't help but think I should have given up when he was 2 and furthered my education then.  Cold, I know—but the world is much colder than I ever wanted to know.

At every step of the way, all they had to do was help but it appears all they wanted to do was help themselves.
