The focus is on San Diego based biotech company Senomyx, who states on their website that, “We created proprietary taste receptor-based assay systems that provide a biochemical or electronic readout when a flavor ingredient interacts with the receptor. ™ What they dont tell the public is that they are using HEK 293 (human embryonic kidney cells) taken from an electively aborted baby to produce those receptors. As an example of just one of over 75 patents on file in which the aborted fetal cells are utilized, Senomyx states in US Patent number 7,297543 “The invention provides a preferred mammalian cell ines, e.g. HEK-293 cells that stably express TTR/TTRS and Gusub alpha 15 under inducible conditions. These cells are useful in cell-based assays for identifying compounds that elit or modulate sweet tste © Senomyx has entered into agreements with food plants, PepsiCo, Nestles and Cadbury Adams LLC, a division of Kraft Foods in which the companies pay Senomyx for the research and development of the flavor enhancers and then continue to pay royalties on the products sold. Some of these companies already have products on the market in the US using Senomyx flavors, whereas PepsiCo's products are still in the development stage.

First, A disclaimer—by me.  I know some of you will want to hit me.  I was always pro-choice.  I have seen things in my 70 years on this earth many of you cannot imagine.

What does ‘Flavor Enhancement’ have to do with abortion?—you’ll see.

An unwanted child can suffer terrible things.  You can’t just sit in judgment and say let the child live and not accept responsibility for bringing it up.  I know this well as an unwanted child.  Abortion was illegal when I was born in the 50s.

Not only was I unwanted, I watched my mother nearly die when I was about 9-years-old. A child my mother carried within her had died at five months or so gestation.  MDs were so terrified to remove the rotting fetus from her belly; it festered there for a month or more and nearly killed her. [Remember now—these were the 60s and medicine had not developed the tools to confirm my sister’s death beyond all doubt.]

But I always had this ‘hearts and flowers’ idea that discarded prenatal children were tenderly cared for…

Silly me.

The brutality I experienced in life should have informed me that death was no kinder.

When I carried my first child, my almost husband requested I abort him.  My answer was a very firm no.  Although I believed everyone should make their own choices when it came to their bodies—consideration of circumstances and supporting a child included—I knew abortion was never going to be for me.

But when I held my first beautiful baby boy, I could not have imagined the brutality our government had planned for him—for us…
