    As a Sr. Product Design Engineer, you will work with the rest of the eero Hardware Engineering team to design and deliver consumer electronics devices for wired and wireless networking applications. You will be responsible for the design, reliability, and quality of the mechanical components of these devices. You will help engineering teams solve technical problems to creatively meet product objectives and mentor junior engineers. You will demonstrate cross-functional technical leadership, working closely with Industrial Design, Product Management, Reliability, and Manufacturing teams to accomplish your goals. You will play a key role in defining development processes and methods to improve the productivity and efficiency of the Product Design team, advocating for the implementation of best practices. You will identify and initiate investigations of new technologies, prototype and test solutions for product features, and design and validate production designs that deliver an exceptional customer experience.

    Key job responsibilities

    Design mechanical architectures and components for high-volume consumer electronics with high reliability, highly constrained industrial design, and aggressive BOM cost targets

    Mentor junior engineers and promote good product design practices

    Develop mechanical designs from initial concept through mass production

    Prototype designs using appropriate methodologies (FDM, SLA, CNC, etc.)

    Engage with other members of cross-functional teams (ID, EE, RF, Antenna, Manufacturing) to arrive at appropriate design tradeoffs

    Design and draft custom mechanical components, producing detailed documentation and specifications

    Conduct design reviews for your products and participate actively in reviews requested by other engineers

    Interface with development and manufacturing partners in Asia and the US

    Manage DFM feedback from mechanical component suppliers, advising on design modifications

    Provide hands-on support during NPI builds at manufacturing partner factories (up to 25% of the time)

    Lead test failure analysis and solution validation during product development, and support field failure analysis and solution evaluation for product issues after launch

    Prepare and deliver status updates to eero leadership when necessary

    Basic Qualifications

    Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field

    5+ years of experience in electro-mechanical product design

    Experience with design of plastic and sheet metal parts

    Strong verbal and written communication skills

    Knowledge of tolerance analysis and statistical process control

    Proficiency with mechanical CAD software (preferably Creo or SolidWorks)

    Preferred Qualifications

    Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field

    7+ years of experience in electro-mechanical product design for high-volume consumer electronics

    3+ years of experience managing or leading small teams of 3-8 mechanical engineers

    Demonstrated technical leadership and mentoring skills

    Experience with plastic part tooling and optimization for cost and manufacturability

    Experience with thermal analysis and simulations

    Experience with structural analysis and simulations

    Understanding of antenna design principles and system integration challenges of wireless technologies

    At least one full product development cycle leading to the successful launch of a consumer product

    Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $114,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $213,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
