    We are seeking a Bridge Engineer with 8+ years of consulting experience in analysis and design of new and rehabilitation structures for our Norfolk or Richmond, VA office.

    As the successful new hire, you will have strong design skills, manage projects, mentor and lead team members on highway (DOT), rail, and pedestrian bridges; retaining walls; load rating, and other related structures.

    You will support a wide variety of structural transportation projects for state departments of transportation (mainly VDOT), county, municipal and private clients.

    You will be offered the opportunity to work on related structures in other states as part of our interoffice staff utilization program.

    This will allow you to enhance your resume, project experience, knowledge and networking throughout the company, various DOTs, counties, and municipalities.

    Duties and responsibilities:
    Prepares/performs and checks structural analysis, design plans, specifications, and estimates for bridge projects while working collaboratively with multi-discipline design teams
    Provides experience in project planning including general oversight, design, implementation, and ensures quality of work products
    Maintains knowledge of state DOT and local agency design standards and criteria, practices, and policies
    Performs structural analysis/design and leads/mentors team members through the design process
    Analyzes deteriorated components, assesses remaining capacities
    Develops/prepares construction documents (drawings, specification, and cost estimate)
    Performs structural inspection/field investigations (if needed) and prepares related reports
    Prepares and coordinates structural technical reports, cost estimates, marketing, and fee proposals
    Performs QA/QC review of documents prepared by others in accordance with Moffatt & Nichol's Quality Management System (QMS)
    Reviews and processes contractor's Request for Information (RFI) and shop drawing submittals
    Performs other duties as required

    Qualifications:
    Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering. Master's degree in Structural Engineering is preferred
    Professional Engineer licensure in the State of Virginia or the ability to obtain via reciprocity within 6 months of hire
    8+ years of experience in bridge design and analysis including concrete and steel structures
    Experience that includes planning, inspection, design (new and rehabilitative), load ratings, contract documentation, and construction support services
    Knowledge of state DOT (VDOT preferred), local municipal, and county design standards and criteria, practices, and policies
    Desired proficiency in any of the following software: AASHTOWare Bridge Rating (BrR), LARSA 4D, SAP, CSI Bridge, VBridge, VBent computer, Leap Concrete, FB-MultiPier
    Valid driver's license in good standing
    Ability and willingness to travel as required. Travel is primarily local and typically does not require an overnight stay. Some weekly travel may be required on occasion
    All new hires will be required to successfully complete and pass a pre-employment (post offer) background check in compliance with NIST

    Physical requirements:
    Majority of work is office based. Position requires ability to use standard office equipment. Some field work may be required, which may necessitate navigating unpaved or natural terrain while carrying equipment. Field work includes exposure to extreme heat, cold or inclement weather. Some travel is required.
