    We are currently searching for an experienced Senior Bridge Engineer to support our Mid Atlantic Region located in Virginia Beach or Springfield, VA. The candidate will need to have the flexibility to come into the office to train and develop staff and meet with clients. This position could be part-time or full-time depending on candidate desires. The primary assignment for this position is to support the VDOT Hampton Roads Structure & Bridge Department in their delivery of the many and large projects in the District.

    The ideal candidate will support the engineering team's development of construction bid documents and assist with business development activities.

    What you'll be doing:

    • Perform/supervise calculations and analysis for designing bridge and transportation structures using various bridge design software programs
    • Perform/supervise load ratings on bridges of various type size and complexity
    • Review calculations and design details developed by others either on behalf of Volkert or our client
    • Attend meeting with clients and other professionals and organizations
    • Develop solutions to challenges presented by the client
    • Review shop drawings and other construction related submittals
    • Organize and maintain project files
    • Assist with marketing bridge and structure design work

    What you need to have:

    • Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
    • Master of Engineering preferred, but not required
    • Valid Professional Engineering Licensure (P.E.) in Virginia
    • 10+ years of engineering experience in bridge design
    • VDOT experience is strongly preferred but not required
    • MicroStation experience preferred
    • Technical expertise for the layout & design of bridges and related highway structures
    • Familiarity with rehabilitation of existing bridges and highway structures
    • Knowledge of AASHTO and other pertinent bridge design specifications
