    **Job Description**

    Aviation Safety Manager (ASM) will help build our safety organization and assist World View in managing the risks inherent in aerospace development and flight operations.

    In this role, the ASM will lead the implementation of World Views Safety Management System (SMS). Core responsibilities will include contributing to World View flight operations team by improving safety processes, documenting various system safety analyses, building and maintaining the flight operations hazard database, and assisting with safety-related requirements management.

    **Role Responsibilities**

    Develop and implement the company Safety Management System (SMS)

    In cooperation with flight operations personnel, develop specific flight safety review and approval processes and procedures.

    Develop and manage the high-risk safety approval process.

    Coordinate the completion of flight safety-related documentation packages for review and approval prior to execution.

    Participate in and provide safety input for all Safety Review Boards (SRB)s.

    Develop training materials and train personnel involved with the flight safety review process. Where applicable, coordinate with external aviation safety representatives.

    Support both local and offsite flight operations, when needed coordinate first responder duties during an onsite accident/incident.

    Report and investigate flight operations related accidents to determine the cause of the accident and formulate recommendations to help prevent similar mishaps in the future.

    Maintain accident and incident records, files, and reports.

    Perform duties as an active member of an aviation accident board.

    Develop a flight safety lessons learned process.

    **Qualifications**

    BA/BS degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or aviation safety.

    Extensive knowledge of aerospace safety processes.

    Prior U.S. Military, NASA, Commercial Aviation or DOD Aviation Safety experience is required.

    Extensive experience in risk management and mitigation.

    At least one former position in a safety-related leadership role.

    Expert knowledge in the technical field of aviation safety and accident prevention and experience in use of DOD, FAA, NTSB, or lCAO documentation is required.

    Intimately familiar with SMS and QMS.

    Very detail-oriented and able to work independently or in groups.

    Able to change directions with the needs of the work environment and take-on additional responsibilities based on operational needs.

    Proficient in performing hazard analysis, fault tree analysis, failure diagnosis and data/trend analysis.

    Knowledge and ability to apply system safety analysis tools.

    **Bonus Points**

    Previous experience in conducting aircraft accident investigations.

    Knowledge of software development practices and design assurance methods such as DO-178C or ARP4754A.

    Knowledge of electronic hardware design assurance methods such as DO-254A.

    Balloon operations experience.
