    Role


    As a Senior Financial Analyst, you will provide financial consulting services to the Maritime Division's Marine Maintenance department while focusing on the mission of the Port of Seattle.

    Your role will include financial analysis, management reporting, oversight of operating and capital budgets, and serving as a business partner to Marine Maintenance and/or other assigned lines of business.


    The essential functions of the position include:


    You will develop complex methods to extract, collect, and organize data, conduct complex analysis, and develop appropriate research methods, review and test new tools and technologies that enhance effectiveness of financial reporting.

    You will monitor, and ensure compliance with applicable policies, laws, and regulations.

    You will design and maintain financial models & processes to address complex and dynamic financial issues as a subject matter expert in collaboration with manager and business partners.

    You will prepare analyses for investment decisions that may include discounted cash flow, trend, and cost benefit analyses.

    You will determine appropriate key assumptions, metrics, and scenarios to be incorporated in modeling to develop recommendations for department and division leadership.

    You will serve as a business partner to Marine Maintenance (and/or other assigned lines of business) to understand needs and provide financial services that include budget development, financial reporting, and analysis to inform business decisions.

    You will make financial recommendations to maximize business opportunities, mitigate risks, and identify emerging issues, participate in inter-departmental teams to address complex issues, manage facilities, and deliver projects.

    You will prepare and review financial reports, provide insights & analysis, utilize data storytelling techniques and key messaging to communicate financial insights appropriate for intended audiences, manage the report delivery process, contribute content, and perform accuracy/completeness reviews of others' reports, identify, and recommend changes to enhance reporting effectiveness.

    You will manage the budget process for assigned lines of business including schedule and analysis, develop baseline budgets for departments, make recommendations and solve problems.

    You will oversee budgeting of Marine Maintenance's represented and non-represented workforce. You will also support division-level budget development and port-wide reporting/views.

    You will utilize data visualization and storytelling techniques to increase the effectiveness of financial presentations to business partners, finance team members, division senior leadership, and external stakeholders.

    You will, focus on key messaging and tailor presentations to meet the business needs of targeted audiences.

    You will develop and maintain complex financial models to evaluate business operations, initiatives, and proposals, including leases and other contracts, as well as alternative business strategies, major capital investments, and ongoing performance issues.

    You will provide support to assigned business groups with risk/reward identification, asset valuation analysis, evaluating alternatives, and reviewing financial information.

    You will work with managers to create and maintain an ongoing 10-year forecast of expected financial results by obtaining estimated financial inputs, evaluating, and analyzing data, and forecasting outcomes as business conditions change.


    Who you are:


    Experienced – You have five (5) years of experience performing financial analysis, reviewing business performance, and developing reports to communicate financial information.

    Educated – You possess a Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or related degree.

    Desired – We hope you have at least seven (7) years of experience performing financial analysis, working with enterprise-wide management information systems such as PeopleSoft and/or Maximo, including development of queries and management reports, and experience leading a project involving multiple participants through from beginning to end.

    Knowledgeable – You have formal training in evaluating capital investment alternatives and strategies utilizing net present value and internal rate of return concepts.

    You have a well-developed understanding of financial reporting and accounting concepts including accounting standards such as Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and Government Accounting Standards.

    Technologically Savvy – You're proficient in Microsoft Office Products, SharePoint, and PeopleSoft in various modules, nVision report creation, and Query Reporting.

    Analytical – You have experience in preparing operating budgets, creating financial models, evaluating capital investment alternatives and strategies utilizing net present value and internal rate or return concepts.

    You have the ability to analyze, interpret, and clearly communicate financial information to non-financial staff.
    Organized – You have an ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.

    You have the ability to take a project from inception to end and are able to lead multifaceted work projects involving a number of participants from numerous disciplines within an organization.

    What else you need to know:

    Work Schedule – Your normal work schedule will be Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (40 hours per week). Slightly more flexible start and end times are available in this role.
    Work Environment - This work will take place in a hybrid remote/in-office setting at Management's discretion.

    Washington State Residency Requirement – Employees must establish a residence in Washington state within 30 days of their first day of employment and must maintain a residence in Washington State during their employment with the Port of Seattle.

    If a position is eligible to telework, work performed while teleworking must be performed in Washington State.
