    Washburn Center for Children is a leading children's mental health center, caring for a wide variety of children's needs associated with anxiety, depression, behavioral difficulties and trauma.

    The 141-year-old nonprofit offers critical mental health intervention to help children - and their families - realize hope. Washburn Center for Children serves almost 4,000 children ages 0-18 and approximately 9,000 family members each year. Washburn Center's three office locations - Brooklyn Park, Edina, and Minneapolis - serve the entire Twin Cities metro area.

    The nonprofit also offers in-home services, and its school-based program serves 50+ schools in the Eden Prairie, Bloomington, Minneapolis, Savage, Burnsville and Eagan school districts.

    The Senior Accountant is responsible for performing financial reporting and analysis in accordance with GAAP.

    The Senior Accountant is expected to prepare, review, and analyze journal entries and schedules to support timely and accurate financial reporting.

    The Senior Accountant is expected to prepare the monthly reconciliations and assist the Controller with drafting financial statements. Additionally, the Senior Accounting performs financial statement analysis, process improvement, audit functions, and various financial projects.

    Must have a minimum of 3-5 years of experience with a combination of public accounting and/or industry accounting, preferably in a nonprofit and/or healthcare.

    The Senior Accountant reports directly to the Controller/Finance Director and works closely with the other finance team to achieve organizational objectives


    The Senior Accountant will:

    • Prepare and post monthly, quarterly, and ad hoc journal entries impacting various areas account within the general ledger accounts and sub-ledgers.
    • Analyze and reconcile general ledger accounts activity for discrepancies and present findings.
    • Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes utilizing month-end check list.
    • Prepare various account reconciliation schedules and analyze them for accuracy and consistency.
    • Handle all financial reporting data with the quality and determine proper accounting treatment for transactions based on accounting principles.
    • Assist as needed with the annual audits audit, single audit and 990, as well as other filings or evaluation engagements with external parties.
    • Complete special projects and ad hoc analysis as assigned by the Controller/Finance Director
    • Work closely with other departments and business units regarding accounting activities.
    • Support team efforts and builds authentic relationships with individuals in work groups and teams.
    • Consistently demonstrate and live Washburn's cultural tenets and values.
    • Participate in the agency's culture activities to connect regularly with others.
    Teamwork and Collaboration - The Senior Accountant is expected to work as part of the Finance team as well as collaborate with teams across the agency, including:


    • Attend and participate in Finance, Billing, Payroll, and other agency meetings as necessary
    • Support and serve as a backup for the Accounting Associate
    • Perform team projects as needed
    Professional Development - Each staff member at Washburn Center is responsible for their own professional development


    The Senor Accountant will:

    • Stay up-to-date on current accounting and finance trends and best practices through various forms of training and information sources
    • Be aware of other ways to develop skills and knowledge pertaining to the position including non-profit operations and finance management
    • Monitor goals to ensure performance management framework compliance
    Required technical skills, knowledge and abilities


    • Advanced Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains (GP) and Microsoft office suite skills
    • Great attention to detail, analytical and interpersonal skills
    • Strong ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize conflicting deadlines
    • Handle confidential information discreetly
    • Confident working in teams or independently
    • Take initiative and follow through tasks completion with minimal instruction and guidance
    • Display flexibility to shift priorities as needed
    • Build trust and rapport with internal and external clients; support teamwork and collaborate cross-functionally
    • Adhere to policies and procedures, including developing new policies and procedures as needed
    • Communicate in a positive, direct, and constructive manner across the agency
    Education


    • Undergraduate or graduate degree (Finance, Accounting, or a related field) or equivalent work experience
    • Thorough knowledge of financial and accounting practices and procedures including GAAP
    • Familiarity with nonprofit governance processes, will be helpful but not necessary
    • CPA or MBA strongly preferred.
    Experience


    • At least one year of audit experience required in addition to 3-5 years of industry experience
    • Experience working with the Generally Accepted Accounting Practices (GAAP) required
    • Knowledge and experience with monthly accounting cycles and procedures required
    • Extensive experience in monthly financial reporting, and year-end audit prep required
    • Knowledge in grant management and administration desired
    • Experience mental health, or health services organizations preferred
    • Deep nonprofit finance knowledge, including nonprofit monthly cycles desired
    • Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains (GP) system
    • Advanced Excel skills including pivot tables and complex formulas
    • Electronic Grants Management System (EGMS)
    • Experience using the ADP Workforce Now Payroll and HRIS
    $80,000 - $100,000 a year

    Salary Range $80,000 - $100,000; Salary dependent on experience and qualifications

    WASHBURN:
    Washburn offers benefits to Full-Time benefit eligible employees comprehensive Dental, Vision, Health, Life and Long term disability insurance. Additionally we offer a 403b retirement plan and a flexible benefit option (FSA).

    Vacation:

    Paid Vacation accrues at 10 hours of vacation per month - up to 15 days / 120 hours annually.


    Sick Leave:

    Paid sick leave accrues at 6.68 hours of sick per month - up to 10 days / 80 hours.


    Holidays:
    There are 2.5 days/20 hours of floating holidays per year in addition to the eight standard holidays.
