    SUMMARY

    Assist Teacher I, II, III or IV with the performance of educational and non-educational functions. Does related work as required. The Teacher Floater works with children and parents in the same manner as a Teacher I or II under the guidance of the Education Coordinator.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

    • Assists in the preparation of room and materials for classroom work
    • Maintains the room, equipment and materials
    • Assist with the serving of meals and nutrition supplements and involved in mealtime with the child.
    • Provides supervision and guidance and assists with clean-up as requested by immediate supervisor
    • Assume responsibility under the guidance of the Teacher in carrying out education program
    • Model positive work ethic for parents and staff.
    • Guides parents in classroom participation and observation
    • Greets children and parents on arrival and escorts children to and from bus
    • Works closely and directly under the guidance of the Teacher in performing tasks designated through joint planning with the Teacher

    In Early Head Start, acts as Substitute for education staff during lunches, breaks, planning sessions, absences. Does related work as required by the agency in providing services to children and families.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Teacher I, II must have a child currently enrolled in the Head Start Program or had a child in the program during the previous school year; or be a relative of a Head Start/Early Head Start child, a former Head Start employee or have one year experience working with young children and/or educational background in Education/Early Childhood. For Early Head Start, GED/High School Diploma required.

    Classroom Substitutes with a child currently enrolled in Head Start preferred. Twenty (20) hours of classroom volunteer time and mandatory substitute training is prerequisite for this program.

    For early Head Start, a Child Development Associate credential in infant development completed within one year of date of hire required. This credential requires a GED/High School Diploma prerequisite.

    Teacher II will have obtained CDA credential.

    Access to transportation and ability to visit sites throughout Erie County required. Erie County resident preferred

    SKILLS AND ABILITIES

    A love of preschool children, some knowledge of classroom techniques, ability to interact with young children in a classroom setting; ability to speak clearly and write legibly, dependable, neat appearance and good physical condition, and ability to work as a team member.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    Completion of the CAO of Erie County, Inc., application form including completion of the NYS SCR Clearance form, criminal record certification and release(s) for reference checks.

    All persons hired for positions in CAO Head Start programs must pass a physical examination by a CAO physician (paid for by CAO),.

    All persons hired in CAO Head Start programs must receive acceptable SCR clearance and be free of criminal convictions for crimes against children (misdemeanor and felony). Fingerprinting required.
