    Job Description

    SUMMARY

    The Teacher Floater job assists Teachers in performing educational and non-educational tasks. Working under the Education Coordinator's guidance, they engage with children and parents similar to Teachers. This role involves preparing classrooms, supervising children, participating in mealtime, and supporting educational programs.

    Salary Information Starting at $16.00 USD per hour

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

    • Prepare classrooms and materials for educational activities
    • Maintain room, equipment, and materials
    • Assist in serving meals, nutrition supplements, and mealtime activities
    • Provide supervision, guidance, and assist with clean-up tasks
    • Support educational programs as directed by Teachers
    • Set a positive example for parents and staff
    • Guide parents in participating and observing classroom activities
    • Welcome and escort children and parents
    • Collaborate closely with Teachers on designated tasks

    Additionally, in Early Head Start, this role acts as a Substitute for education staff during various periods. The Teacher Floater may also be involved in providing services to children and families as needed by the agency.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Teacher I and II positions require experience working with children, educational background, or affiliation with Head Start programs. For Early Head Start, a GED/High School Diploma is necessary. Classroom Substitutes should have volunteer experience and complete mandatory substitute training. Early Head Start demands a Child Development Associate credential in infant development within a year of hiring. Teacher II roles necessitate a CDA credential.

    Successful candidates must demonstrate a passion for working with preschoolers, knowledge of classroom methods, clear communication skills, teamwork abilities, and physical fitness.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    This role entails talking, listening, writing, and sitting. Some lifting up to 25 pounds may be required.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT

    The work environment may involve moderate to noisy levels of noise.

    APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

    Interested individuals must complete the CAO of Erie County, Inc., application form, including necessary clearances and references checks. Candidates must pass a physical examination, criminal background check, and obtain SCR clearance. Fingerprinting is mandatory for all hires in CAO Head Start programs.
