Job DescriptionI. POSITION SUMMARY:
Bradford Health is seeking a Veterans' Service Advocate for our Hero's Path program, a role crucial for enabling Veterans' access to essential substance use disorder treatment. This position is perfect for those who are not only versed in VA policies and appeal processes, but also carry a deep commitment to serving the Veterans.
II. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Analyze VA denial notices to pinpoint appeal opportunities within the Hero's Path program.
• Craft, file, and track well-documented appeal requests to the VA, ensuring strict compliance with all pertinent regulations and timelines.
• Actively advocate for Veterans' rights and entitlements, liaising with VA offices to overturn unjust denials.
• Provide tailored support to Veterans and their families, elucidating the details of VA benefits and the appeal process.
• Collaborate with healthcare providers, legal experts, and other stakeholders to gather necessary support and documentation for successful appeals.
• Oversee the progress of appeals, keeping Veterans and program management informed.
• Maintain current knowledge of VA policies and procedures to ensure optimal advocacy strategies.
• Facilitate educational sessions for Veterans and their families on their rights and available support.
• Keep precise and confidential records of all advocacy activities.
III. ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS:
A. Education and Experience:
• Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Legal Studies, Public Administration, or related field. Relevant experience may substitute for educational requirement.
• Proven track record in Veterans' affairs, specifically in managing VA claims and appeals.
• Comprehensive understanding of the legal and procedural frameworks governing Veterans' benefits.
• Exceptional communication skills, capable of empathetic engagement with Veterans and their families.
• Excellent organizational skills with a strong attention to detail, capable of managing multiple cases efficiently.
• Robust advocacy and negotiation skills, with a history of effectively navigating complex bureaucratic processes.
C. Physical Requirements:
• Able to walk approximately 1-2 miles during eight-hour shift
• Able to continuously sit from one-half hour to four hours per eight hours.
• Able to frequently ascend and descend stairs.
• Able to lift and move up to 50 pounds
D. Other Requirements:
• If recovering, two (2) years of continuous, verifiable sobriety
• Must be able to work in a constant state of alertness as to perform the job in a safe manner
• Regular attendance; including conference calls and onsite meetings, as necessary
• Pass required background checks, urine drug screen and motor vehicle report
• Maintain a valid driver's license and meet fleet policy requirements as necessary
