    Service Engineer
    Remote

    SUMMARY:
    • The main function of a Service Engineer is to design, develop, implement, test, and maintain business and computer applications software or specialized utility programs including mainframe and client/server applications, and major enhancement of existing systems
    RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Fine-tune and improve a variety of sophisticated software implementation projects
    • Gather and analyze system requirements, document specifications, and develop software solutions to meet client needs and data
    • Analyze and review enhancement requests and specifications
    • Implement system software and customize to client requirements
    • Prepare the detailed software specifications and test plans
    • Code new programs to client's specifications and create test data for testing
    • Modify existing programs to new standards and conduct unit testing of developed programs
    • Create migration packages for system testing, user testing, and implementation
    • Provide quality assurance reviews
    • Perform post-implementation validation of software and resolve any bugs found during testing
    Typical Day in the Role:
    • Purpose of the Team: Azure Sphere is a secure IOT micro controller (very small device) that they sell to people who build devices and people who run those devices. Ex: If you go to Starbucks today and see espresso machines work through connection to the internet - they protect those machines from being hacked. In order for that to work, they have 3 different teams in azure sphere - operating system (custom linox), tooling and acceleration team (provides tools for people manufacturing devices to see how they are working and a services team who build azure services on front end and back end (keeps devices updated, compare current state of devices to where it should be - they will provide updates to put it in good state or see if device has been hacked in some state)
    • Key Projects: Key piece for this role - 2 of the 3 programs in this program have significant compliance between MSFT and azure itself (FIP or FIPs compliant). US government certifications are needed to remain compliant. This person will be helping all the infrastructure and compliant work to keep Azure compliant - could involve new services and versions of services they provide / containers / software. Kubernetes and azure (needs updates on regular basis to meet compliance), certificate management. Complexity when a compliance item turns red, learning how to map it to bring it back into the green
    • Typical Task Breakdown and Operating Rhythm: The role will consist of 85+% heads down work and very little meetings
    QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Bachelor's degree in a technical field such as computer science, computer engineering or related field required
    • 8-10 years' experience required
    • A solid foundation in computer science, with strong competencies in data structures, algorithms, and software design
    • large systems software design and development experience
    • Experience performing in-depth troubleshooting and unit testing with both new and legacy production systems
    • Experience in programming and experience with problem diagnosis and resolution
    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
    Candidate Requirements:
    • Years of Experience Required: 8-10 overall years of experience in the field
    • Degrees or Certifications Required: N/A - experience would out-weigh degree requirement
    • Disqualifiers: Candidates with things in their resume talking about user experience / front-end / web-based experience - nothing in this job relates to those things - this would be a red flag. Looking for back-end experience
    • Best vs. Average: Would be nice to have azure and Kubernetes work. Someone who has been directly responsible for keeping azure and Kubernetes running - would be great to have as experience
    • Performance Indicators: Performance will be assessed based on meeting deadlines
    Top 3 Hard Skills Required + Years of Experience
    • Familiarity with Kubernetes and how to set it up (3-5 YOE) - it's about configuration, being able to de-bug (does NOT need adaptation/source code - need to know how to keep what they have running)
    • Familiarity with Azure (back-end experience, resource provider / how you use the tools and what the tool is doing behind the scenes) (3-5 YOE)
    • Experience running dot net core within Linox (diagnose examples of failures, deployment, being able to reverse engineer / de-bug) (2+ YOE)
