    Job Description

    Are you enthusiastic about making a positive impact in the lives of others through food? Do you excel in a dynamic setting where teamwork and efficiency are crucial? If that sounds like you, then we have an excellent opportunity waiting. We are on the lookout for a committed Prep Cook to become part of our team at Shelterhouse, playing a key role in our mission of providing nourishing meals to more than 200 residents daily. This position goes beyond simply cooking; it involves empathy, collaboration, and ensuring each person receives a comforting, wholesome meal.

    Responsibilities:

    • Meal Preparation: Prepare substantial meals for over 200 residents, ensuring that each dish meets our stringent standards for quality and nutrition.
    • Donation Processing: Efficiently handle incoming donations, guaranteeing that all food items are appropriately stored and utilized in meal preparation.
    • Timely Meal Service: Collaborate with the kitchen team to ensure prompt and well-organized meal delivery at both shelters, maintaining a consistent flow of food to meet our residents' needs.
    • Food Safety: Adhere strictly to food safety procedures and guidelines, upholding cleanliness and hygiene in the kitchen consistently to safeguard the health and well-being of our residents.
    • Team Collaboration: Engage closely with kitchen personnel, volunteers, and other team members to streamline operations and optimize efficiency in meal preparation and service.
    • Availability: Due to being a homeless shelter, operating hours extend to weekends and holidays, necessitating staff members who can ensure meal provision throughout such times.

    Qualifications:

    • Prior experience in a kitchen environment, preferably within a high-volume setting.
    • Solid understanding of food safety and sanitation practices.
    • Capability to perform effectively under pressure and in a fast-paced setting.
    • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
    • Compassionate and understanding approach towards individuals facing homelessness.
    • Flexibility to work weekends and holidays as needed.

    Compensation: $18/hr
