    **Description**

    **GENERAL DESCRIPTION**

    The cook prepares food in quantities enough for patient meals, including special foods as necessary for therapeutic diets. The cook will follow the prepared menu as written. In addition, the cook will assist as needed with cleaning and serving of meals. The cook may also be assigned related tasks and duties by the food service manager.

    **RATE (depends on licensure)**

    Prep and Cook is $10.00 to $14.00 based on experience.

    **Responsibilities:**

    Assures quality of food and assists others in department as needed

    Assures proper food counts

    Maintains clean working environments ensuring guidelines for food handling are followed

    Interacts appropriately with residents, family and peers

    Sets tables, cleans tables

    Washes dishes, may wash pots and pans as needed

    Completes other assigned duties when not cooking/preparing food

    **Special Demands:**

    Genuine interest in working with patients and food service as related to total patient care

    Ability to cooperate with supervisors, co-workers, and other departments

    Ability to follow recipes and menus, especially related to therapeutic diets

    Ability to follow meal schedule

    Ability to work under pressure at peak periods

    Willingness and cooperation in following instructions as given

    Willingness to prepare food for special occasions as requested

    Use of initiative and good judgement within the bounds of job description

    **Qualifications:**

    Ability to read, write and follow written and oral directions

    Basic mathematics ability necessary in following recipes

    Basic knowledge of quantity food preparation and cooking beneficial

    Ability to estimate relative quantities of food, per written recipes

    Familiar with health regulations as published by the public health department.

    **Work Environment:**

    Clean, well-lit ventilated kitchen

    Controlled climate except when moving among walk-in refrigerators/freezer

    Facility department shirt

    White pants/shoes

    Hair and beard nets as applicable
