    Supervisor of Placement and Allocation - Dallas, United States - Southwest Transplant Alliance

    The Supervisor of Placement and Allocation is responsible for managing the day-to-day activities related to the systems for placement of organs in STA's donor service area for transplantation and research.

    Activities include, but are not limited to, being knowledgeable of individual hospital and OPTN policies related to the donation of all anatomical gifts; and performing activities related to the initial and surgical recovery elements of the donation process.

    This role will assist in the development and retention of department staff.

    The activities include input into the orientation of new staff, as well as any special projects that may be assigned.

    The incumbent develops and maintains expertise associated with donor evaluation and organ recovery practices to include, but not limited to, donor management, organ preservation and organ distribution logistics.

    The position will also facilitate the general activities required throughout the donor recovery period under the direction of the medical director, clinical management team, and the lead recovery surgeon present in the operating room.


    EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS:
    Associates of Science degree preferred.

    Current Texas credential as a EMT-B or LVN, or completion of an accredited clinical healthcare program resulting in a certification, registry, licensure or equivalent work experience.

    Minimum of three years clinical OPO or allocation experience preferred.
    Prior leadership experience preferred.
    Expert knowledge of OPO standards & OPTN policy related to OPO responsibilities and organ allocation.
    Excellent oral, written, and documentation skills required.
    Must have the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of personnel, and to represent the organization publicly.
    Ability to work both independently and as part of a team required.
    Detail oriented, with ability to provide accuracy in all documentation.

    Must be able to simultaneously execute multiple complex processes, provide accurate documentation, and prioritize tasks to optimize workflow to ensure compliance with established policies and timelines.

    Proficient in MS office, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint 11. Ability to travel in light and commercial aircraft or drive his/her personal auto to meet all job duties and responsibilities


    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

    Supervises assigned team members, including:
    a. Root cause analysis and corrective action plans related to department functions.
    b.

    Conduct employee appraisal, performance improvement plans, and corrective action plans under the direction of the Manager of Donation Services and Allocation.

    c. Approve employee expense reports, off call pay, and PTO requests in accordance with STA guidelines and policy
    Maintains regular office hours in addition to On-Call and scheduled responsibilities.
    Participates in rotating On-Call duties with additional departmental leadership.

    Maintains competencies in all PAC duties by working at least two scheduled shifts monthly and as needed to support appropriate staffing for donor activity.

    Meets with assigned team members monthly, at minimum, to discuss individual performance and performance as related to specific department metrics.

    Able to provide clear direction to others related to all expected duties and roles of a Placement and Allocation Coordinator.

    Actively monitors allocation volume and case activity, providing input for optimal strategies.
    Participates in Clinical Case Review in-services.
    Ensures proper documentation of training and corrective action follow-up.
    Ensures adequate staffing through collaborative scheduling.

    Collaborates on daily case related activities ensuring appropriate assignments/reassignments, huddle participation, problem solving, and critical communications related to donor activity.

    Assist People Services and Education Departments in recruiting, interviewing, and training new staff.
    Assists in development of continuing education and training materials, programs and curriculum related to clinical functions and allocation.

    Oversees coordination and execution of research initiatives and quality improvement initiatives (PDSA) approved by STA leadership under the direction of Department Managers and Director.

    Represent Southwest Transplant Alliance with national and regional procurement and transplant organizations.

    PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT / WORKING CONDITIONS:


    Normal office environment, travel in light and commercial aircraft, or automobile to meet all the duties and responsibilities of the position.

    EQUIPMENT USED:
    The incumbent is required to use various pieces of office equipment. Appropriate orientation to the equipment is provided.
