General Statement of Duties

Develops and sustains focus on a shared mission and clear vision for improvement of learning and teaching.Supervises all activity within the local school facility and ultimately responsible for planning, implementing and evaluating the educational program within the school.Supervises and coaches teachers, support staff and students. Creating a school culture that promotes the ongoing improvement of learning and teaching for students and staff.Coordinates the school program with district goals, policies, and procedures.Provides leadership in all areas of instruction.

Essential Duties

Recognizes, respects, and employs each student's strengths, diversity, and culture as assets for teaching and learning
Acts with cultural competence and responsiveness in their interactions, decision making, and practice
Serves as the instructional leader for his/her school
Creating a school culture that promotes the ongoing improvement of learning and teaching for students and staff
Promotes and monitors student achievement using student data and other outcomes/indicators
Uses student performance data to assess teaching and learning effectiveness
Supervises, evaluates, and provides feedback for teachers and support staff
Demonstrates knowledge of academic expectations and Federal and State requirements
Applies appropriate measures to monitor student achievement
Provides a program for student, staff, and parent recognition
Uses the Code of Student Conduct for making informed decisions regarding student discipline
Communicates school policies relating to student behavior to students, staff and parents
Guides staff to the accomplishment of a given task
Delegates duties and responsibilities and accepts responsibility for the decisions made and the actions taken
Identifies needed areas and provides professional learning for staff and faculty
Lea ds the staff in functioning as a cohesive group
Demonstrates a clear understanding of and adherence to all School Board policies relating to the collection and expenditure of funds
Conducts a systematic budget development process
Exercises planning skills for self, others, and student scheduling
Demonstrates punctuality by meeting deadlines
Involves others in the development of the Virginia Continuous School Improvement Plan (VCSIP) and makes necessary modifications, and assesses progress towards objectives
Aligns the school's VSCIP to the School Division's Strategic Plan
Knows the community and provides clear and effective oral and written communication
Is accessible to school and community members
Provides supervision for after school program and other special activities as necessary
Serves as fiscal manager of all funds and financial auditing
Uses building management skills to maintain a safe, clean, and orderly environment for staff and students
Creates a positive school environment that fosters increased staff morale and team spirit
Coordinates a positive home to school connection that involves the parents and community
Performs other duties as assigned
Involves students, parents, staff, and other stakeholders in a collaborative effort to establish positive relationships

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree with a minimum ofthree years experience as a teacher, administrator or supervisor, at least one year of which must have been at the school level to which assigned.Post-graduate professional certificate with Administration and Supervision endorsement required.Must possess extensive knowledge of the curriculum and instructional program including content and methodologies.Organizational skills are required to plan, implement and evaluate the school program and lead the teaching and support staff in achieving the school's goals.Supervisory skills include staff assignment, monitoring staff development and evaluating staff effectiveness.Highly developed communications skills are required for contact with community members, parents, students, teachers and central office administration; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
