- Possess and continuously enhance a comprehensive knowledge of gift planning strategies, tax, and trust laws.
- Provide advice to donors, their advisors, and colleagues on tax laws and policies.
- Participate in identification, cultivation, and solicitation activities with major gifts officers and development colleagues.
- Develop and maintain professional relationships with various stakeholders within the university.
- Respond promptly to donor requests, follow up on cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship activities.
- Collaborate on individual and regional operating plans with colleagues and the Office of Gift Planning.
- Travel regularly within the region and occasionally to Michigan State University.
- Support the development of proposals, marketing materials, and technology for Gift Planning programs.
- Work indirectly with Gift Planning leadership on assigned tasks and projects.
- Research potential donors and maintain accurate donor records.
- Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Assist in gift planning training and seminars.
- Direct supervision from the Director of Gift Planning.
- Bachelor's degree, master's preferred.
- Five years of experience in professional fundraising or a related field.
- Working knowledge of tax laws related to charitable giving and estate planning.
- Experience in fundraising at a higher education institution.
- Strong writing and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively in public and small group settings.
- Collaborative and team-oriented work style.
- Demonstrated strong work ethic.
- Familiarity with strategic relationship development techniques.
- Experience in closing gifts or business deals.
- Travel experience by automobile, airlines, and rail.

BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY
The Office of Gift Planning in the Individual Giving unit at MSU is seeking a motivated individual to assist in organization and implementation of comprehensive planned giving cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship responsibilities in the Northeastern part of the United States, with a main focus on New York, Boston, and the DC Metro area, collaborating with college directors of development and central development fund-raising staff.
The ideal candidate will reside in the region and work from home, preferably in or near one of the major metros.
As a Regional Gift Planning Advisor, the successful candidate will research prospective donors to develop strategies for cultivating planned and major gift contributions. Additionally, they will enhance their knowledge of gift planning strategies, tax laws, trust laws, estate planning fundamentals, and more.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Requirements include completion of a four-year college degree program and related experience in public relations, volunteer administration, fundraising, or a similar field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
