- The Peer Support Specialist provides recovery-oriented supports in a one-on-one and group setting and helps individuals utilize their personal strengths to reach their goals.
- Acts as an advocate who facilitates and connects individuals to services and activities.
- A self-identified person currently or formerly receiving mental health services; OR
- A self-identified person in recovery from an addiction disorder, who meets the abstinence requirements for recovering staff in alcohol and drug treatment programs; OR
- A self-identified individual in recovery from problem gambling; OR The family member of an individual currently or formerly receiving addictions or mental health services.

Join the Marion County Adult Behavioral Health peer team as a Peer Support Specialist and use your lived experience to support others. Come alongside those in our community with severe and persistent mental illness and offer peer support as they travel on their mental health recovery journey.
The Peer Support Specialist uses recovery tools, shares personal recovery stories, acts as an advocate, is an addition to clinical mental health staff, is open to unique aspects of one's recovery journey, espouses SAMHSA's recovery model, and utilizes understanding and respect when working with others.
This is a fully in-person position.
The Peer Support Specialist provides support, encouragement, and assistance to mental health individuals. The specialist will promote activities that foster recovery and empowerment by sharing their personal experiences when appropriate, modeling self-help and wellness activities.
As a member of the treatment team, the incumbent provides expertise, experience, and consultation to the team to promote a culture in which each individual's point of view and preferences are recognized, respected, and integrated into treatment.
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTSAs defined by OAR, a Peer Support Specialist means an individual providing peer-delivered services to an individual or family member with similar life experience under the supervision of a qualified clinical supervisor and a qualified peer-delivered services supervisor as resources are made available.
