    The Town of Clayton is seeking applicants for an Emergency Management Intern (Fire) for the Fire Department. The Town of Clayton employs more than 300 full-time staff in areas including police, fire, and electric utilities. The Town of Clayton also offers a range of PT positions including positions in Parks & Rec, Library, and Cultural Arts.

    Duties & Responsibilities

    The purpose of the Emergency Management Internship (Fire) is to gain hands-on experience with day-to-day operations of Emergency Management personnel. The Emergency Management Intern will work closely with the Deputy Chief of Administration and other members of the department to gain knowledge of incidents and utilize forms of communication to inform internal and external stakeholders about emergency and non-emergency situations that may impact the Town of Clayton and surrounding areas.
    • Respond to incidents with chief officers
    • Develop mock Incident Action Plans (IAP) for town-wide events and other emergencies as needed
    • Set up table tops/mock Emergency Operations Centers for Town events and emergencies
    • Develop educational material for the local community (Citizens Academy)
    • Other duties as assigned that pertain to Emergency Management
    Learning Outcomes:
    • Ability to develop an Incident Action Plan (IAP)
    • Intermediate-Expert knowledge of Emergency Operation Center (EOC) operations/logistics
    • Ability to develop a Fire Education Program
    • Intermediate-Expert knowledge on all facets of Incident Response
    • Ability to react swiftly to emergency situations and use proper communication channels to ensure a timely response
    Special Requirements, Education & Experience

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES:
    • Candidates for this internship should possess a basic knowledge of Emergency Management; possess the ability to work in high pressure situations; be student minded.
    MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
    • College student or recent graduate.
    • Experience and/or education in Emergency Management preferred.
    NECESSARY SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
    • Must be 18 years or older by the internship start date.
    • Must possess a valid Driver License.
    • Must be flexible with scheduling requirements.
    Set hours will be arranged with direct reporting supervisor for the 2024 summer internship.

    When a salary range is posted, the actual salary will be based on relevant competencies, knowledge, skills & abilities, internal equity and budgetary considerations pertinent to the advertised position.
