Description

The Federal Work Study assists with general clerical duties (greeting guests at the front desk, running errands, making copies, scanning, filing, etc) for a department in a technical college.

Students interested in the work-study program must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the applicable academic year.

Students who indicate on the FAFSA form that they are interested in the Work-Study program and who are eligible will automatically be awarded funds to participate.

Assists in various program areas of the college. Assignments are designed to provide the student with skills that can be transferred into meaningful career opportunities.

Applicants must be able to perform each essential duty listed below satisfactorily - as required by the specific departmental assignment.

Work Study Positions are typically available in the following departments annually:

Adult Education (DeKalb)

Academic Affairs Front Desk (DeKalb)

Admissions Office (DeKalb)

Bookstore (DeKalb & Newton)

Dual Enrollment Office (DeKalb)

Human Resources Front Office (DeKalb)

IT (DeKalb & Newton)

Financial Aid (DeKalb)

One Stop Academic Advising (DeKalb & Newton)

Registrar's Office (DeKalb)

School of Education & Business Front Desk (DeKalb)

Student Activities (DeKalb)

Student Affairs Office Front Desk (DeKalb)

Specific functions of a Work Study student include:

Assist with daily office operations as determined by supervisor.
Assists with clerical duties, answering phones, and desk coverage (in select offices).
Scanning student information into approved system (eclipse)
Maintains office tasks such as filing paperwork, organizing, shredding and making bulk

copies.

Answering the phone.
Assisting the office with office specific events (registration, open house, student

activities, etc)

Assembling information packets for daily mailings and bulk mailings
Other duties as assigned.

Additional qualifications:

Must be customer service oriented.
Ability to work with diverse population of student/parents and staff, in person, over the

phone and through email.

Must possess basic office skills: customer service; filing, data entry, operate a

copier, fax, scanner, etc.

Minimum Qualifications:

Be an enrolled student in an eligible program of study.
Maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) as defined by the Office of Financial Aid.
Be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States.
Must have financial need as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
The student's financial aid file is complete and verified by the Office of Financial Aid.
Received confirmation of an approved FWS award.
Student must not be in default or owe a repayment to any federal aid program.
