DAR is responsible for leading the university's alumni and fundraising efforts and seeks to promote a culture of philanthropy throughout the university community, including alumni, students, parents, faculty, staff, corporations and foundations, patients, and friends. Our goal is to advance GW's mission of excellence in education, research, scholarship, and patient care.

The GW Office of Annual Giving meets the university's needs by raising funds that have an immediate impact. With a focus on increasing alumni participation rates, the team employs direct marketing best practices, innovative digital and personal outreach strategies, and front-line fundraising efforts to build a base of support for the university

Reporting to the Director of Leadership Annual Giving, the Assistant Director is responsible for qualifying and personally soliciting gifts at the Luther Rice Society (LRS) level of $1,000 up to $49,999. This role partners with deans, faculty, and central and school-based development staff to meet fundraising goals, execute events, and build affinity supporting philanthropic priorities.

The Assistant Director is responsible for the qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of leadership annual giving donors through personal outreach, local and virtual visits, and 2-3 domestic trips annually, with an average of 15 visits per month. This role will engage alumni, parents, and friends of GW around donor interests and university priorities to build a pipeline of annual donors through donor recognition programs, including the Luther Rice Society and GW Loyal. Responsibilities also include ensuring the integrity and quality of alumni information in the database, including visit contact reports, donor strategies, and biographical data. The Leadership Annual Giving team collaborates with DAR staff to coordinate alumni engagement through fundraising strategies, regional events, and volunteer management.

    • Provides necessary documentation and follow-up for donors and internal partners as needed.
    • Supports Annual Giving special projects, including writing and executing outreach campaigns, renewing annual donors, and staffing events.
    • Responsible for data management to ensure accurate prospect tracking of stage progression, contact reports, proposals, philanthropic capacity/inclination, and biographical data.
